Job description

CNC Master Field Service Technician

Location: Menifee, California (Southern California Preferred)
Job Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $40.00–$65.00 per hour (based on experience)

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced CNC Field Service Technician who excels at diagnosing and repairing complex CNC equipment in customer environments. Candidates should be capable of independently troubleshooting machines from the electrical control cabinet to the spindle, providing accurate documentation, communicating effectively with customers, and delivering high-quality field service.

Important: This is a field service position. Candidates must have experience traveling to customer sites to diagnose and repair CNC machinery. Shop-floor production maintenance or in-house maintenance experience alone is not sufficient. Hands-on experience servicing Haas, Fanuc, Mazak, Okuma, or similar CNC equipment is required. Candidates located in or willing to relocate to Southern California are strongly preferred.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced CNC Master Field Service Technician to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain CNC machines at customer facilities. This is a field service role requiring extensive travel to customer sites. The ideal candidate has advanced mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and CNC control troubleshooting experience and can independently resolve complex machine issues while providing exceptional customer service.

This is not an entry-level maintenance position. Candidates should have proven experience performing on-site repairs, preventive maintenance, machine installations, and startup support for industrial CNC equipment.

Key ResponsibilitiesCNC Diagnostics & Repair
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, coolant, spindle, servo, drive, amplifier, and CNC control system failures.
  • Troubleshoot CNC controls and alarms on machines utilizing Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, Okuma, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Heidenhain, Yasnac, Fadal, or similar control systems.
  • Perform troubleshooting of servo systems, spindle drives, encoders, feedback devices, motors, sensors, relays, contactors, VFDs, and safety circuits.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams, machine manuals, and diagnostic information to isolate equipment failures.
  • Repair machine components including ball screws, linear guides, bearings, gearboxes, drawbars, tool changers, turrets, pumps, lubrication systems, and hydraulic units.
  • Service machine accessories such as bar feeders, pallet systems, rotary tables, probing systems, robotic loaders, and automated equipment.
Preventive Maintenance & Machine Accuracy
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and recommend corrective actions.
  • Verify machine geometry, spindle condition, backlash, lubrication systems, coolant systems, and hydraulic performance.
  • Conduct machine leveling, alignment, spindle runout checks, ballbar testing, and other accuracy-related diagnostics.
  • Support machine installations, relocations, decommissioning, startup, and commissioning activities.
  • Identify root causes of recurring equipment failures and recommend long-term solutions.
Customer Service & Documentation
  • Communicate repair findings, recommendations, and equipment status professionally with customers.
  • Prepare detailed service reports documenting diagnostics, repairs completed, replacement parts required, and follow-up recommendations.
  • Coordinate with internal teams regarding scheduling, parts requirements, estimates, and service updates.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, photographs, machine parameters, and service records.
Technical Leadership
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior field service technicians.
  • Promote safe work practices and standardized troubleshooting procedures.
  • Assist with resolving complex technical issues and improving service quality.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 8 years of hands-on CNC repair, maintenance, or field service experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and CNC control systems.
  • Experience servicing CNC machines equipped with Haas, Fanuc, Mazak, Okuma, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Heidenhain, Yasnac, Fadal, or similar controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, hydraulic prints, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of servo systems, spindle drives, motors, encoders, sensors, machine interlocks, I/O systems, and safety circuits.
  • Experience performing parameter backups, alarm diagnostics, and controller troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of machine alignment, geometry, leveling, backlash measurement, and spindle diagnostics.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel extensively.
Preferred Qualifications
  • OEM, industrial maintenance, military, trade school, or mechatronics background.
  • Experience with machine installations, removals, commissioning, and rebuild support.
  • Familiarity with robotic automation, pallet systems, probing systems, rotary tables, and bar feeders.
  • Experience using multimeters, amp clamps, dial indicators, ballbar equipment, vibration analysis tools, and precision alignment equipment.
  • Previous experience mentoring technicians or leading complex field service projects.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work inside machine enclosures, and stand for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working around industrial machinery, electrical systems, hydraulic pressure, coolant, and manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to follow lockout/tagout procedures and customer safety requirements.
Schedule & Travel
  • Monday through Friday with overtime and occasional weekends as required.
  • Typical work schedule of 40–60 hours per week.
  • Significant domestic travel is required. This position primarily supports customer sites throughout Southern California and other locations as needed.
