Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. \r\n**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations** \r\n

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification\r\nexists is to support the City's urban development goals, playing a key role in\r\nshaping the future of the city by evaluating priority areas for redevelopment,\r\ncrafting inspired conceptual design solutions, and guiding projects from early\r\nvision through implementation. The position works collaboratively with City\r\ndepartments, developers, business leaders, community groups, and residents to\r\ntranslate urban design objectives into meaningful, visible outcomes. It\r\nrequires thoughtful application of professional standards, policies,\r\nordinances, and regulations to address complex design challenges and advance\r\nhighquality urban development. The work responsibilities include working with\r\nconfidential project information before it becomes public, using specialized\r\ndesign and planning software to visualize proposed development, managing the\r\nadministrative and documentation tasks that keep projects progressing, ensuring\r\nalignment with established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, and\r\ncoordinating research, maintaining accurate project data, and documenting key\r\ndecisions to support clear communication and successful project delivery. This\r\nclassification provides the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the city's\r\nevolving landscape and reports to the Senior Development Manager.\r\n

Minimum Qualifications

\r\nBachelor's degree from an accredited\r\ncollege or university in Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Planning,\r\nor a closely related field, and two (2) years of progressively responsible professional\r\nexperience in urban design, including the creation and rendering of urban\r\ndesign plans and concepts.\r\n\r\n\r\nNOTE: Qualifying education, training, and experience\r\nthat provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job\r\nwill be considered.\r\n\r\n\r\n

Kind of Examination

\r\nApplications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any other vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Community Development Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire. For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application and supplemental questionnaire form completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were. If more than five qualified applications are received, a selection procedure will be administered to rank applicants on the register. Tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.\r\n\r\n\r\nComplete an online application by visiting Montgomery Personnel Board's Online Employment Center.
