What types of projects and tools can an Entry Level Azure DevOps Engineer expect to work with on a daily basis?

As an Entry Level Azure DevOps Engineer, you will typically collaborate with software developers, QA engineers, and IT teams to automate deployment pipelines and manage cloud infrastructure using Azure services. Common tasks include configuring CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps, monitoring application performance, managing code repositories in Git, and writing scripts for automation. You may also assist in troubleshooting deployment issues and maintaining documentation to support team workflows. This hands-on exposure is valuable for building foundational skills and understanding best practices in cloud-based DevOps environments.

What is the difference between Entry Level Azure Devops Engineer vs Junior Cloud Engineer?

AspectEntry Level Azure Devops EngineerJunior Cloud Engineer
CertificationsAzure Fundamentals, Azure DevOps certificationsCloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP) often preferred
Work EnvironmentFocus on DevOps tools, CI/CD pipelines, automation within AzureBroader cloud environment, including deployment, management, and support
Industry UsagePrimarily in organizations using Azure cloud platformUsed across multiple cloud providers and hybrid environments

Entry Level Azure Devops Engineers typically focus on Azure-specific DevOps tools, automation, and CI/CD pipelines, often requiring Azure certifications. Junior Cloud Engineers have a broader scope, working with multiple cloud platforms and cloud management tasks. Both roles are entry-level but differ in specialization and scope within cloud environments.

Is DevOps dead due to AI?

As an Entry Level Azure DevOps Engineer, DevOps remains a vital field, with AI tools enhancing automation, monitoring, and deployment processes. AI complements DevOps practices by improving efficiency but does not replace the need for skilled professionals familiar with cloud platforms, scripting, and CI/CD pipelines.

Is DevOps still in demand in 2026?

DevOps engineers, including Entry Level Azure DevOps Engineers, continue to be in high demand due to the ongoing need for automation, continuous integration, and cloud infrastructure management. As organizations adopt cloud platforms like Azure, skills in tools such as CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and infrastructure as code remain valuable and sought after in the job market.

Can you get a DevOps job with no experience?

Entry-level Azure DevOps Engineer roles typically require some foundational knowledge of cloud services, scripting, and CI/CD tools, but they may be open to candidates with limited professional experience if they demonstrate relevant skills through certifications, personal projects, or training. Gaining familiarity with Azure DevOps, version control, and automation can improve chances of securing such a position without prior work experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level Azure DevOps Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Azure DevOps Engineer, you need a solid understanding of cloud computing fundamentals, scripting languages (like PowerShell or Python), and foundational knowledge of CI/CD practices, typically supported by a relevant degree or certification such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals. Familiarity with Azure DevOps Services, version control systems like Git, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as ARM templates or Terraform is commonly required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and teamwork are valuable soft skills in this role. These competencies enable efficient automation, reliable deployments, and smooth collaboration, which are essential for maintaining robust and scalable cloud infrastructures.

  • Partner with Enterprise IT, Cybersecurity, DevOps, application, and SaaS product teams to support secure infrastructure operations.
  • Follow ITIL change management for cloud, network, Microsoft 365, security, and SaaS platform changes.
  • Support compliance and audit readiness for SOC 2, FedRAMP, StateRAMP, and other regulated environment requirements.
  • Maintain architecture diagrams, network diagrams, change records, backup evidence, monitoring evidence, and operational documentation.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on Microsoft Azure engineering and administration experience.
  • Required: Azure Lighthouse experience.
  • Required: Private Azure architecture experience, including Private Link, private endpoints, private DNS, VPN, private routing, and segmented non-internet-facing workloads.

  • Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Defender for Cloud, Azure Backup, Azure Arc, and Azure Local.
  • Experience working in highly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of SOC 2, FedRAMP, StateRAMP, or similar compliance frameworks.
  • Experience following ITIL change management processes.
  • Ability to support Enterprise IT, Enterprise Cybersecurity, and SaaS product infrastructure.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site in Houston, Texas.

Preferred Qualifications
