Entry Level Aws Iam specializes in managing user permissions and security within AWS, requiring specific IAM knowledge. In contrast, Entry Level Aws Cloud Practitioner provides a broader understanding of AWS services and cloud fundamentals, suitable for roles across various departments. Both certifications are entry-level but serve different focuses within the AWS ecosystem.

What are the most common challenges faced by Entry Level AWS IAM professionals, and how can they effectively address them?

Entry Level AWS IAM professionals often encounter challenges such as understanding complex permission structures, managing user access at scale, and ensuring compliance with security best practices. Navigating AWS’s detailed policies and roles can be overwhelming at first, so it's important to leverage AWS documentation and tools like IAM Policy Simulator to test and validate permissions. Collaborating closely with more experienced team members and participating in internal security reviews can also help new professionals build confidence and expertise. Continuous learning and hands-on practice with AWS IAM features are key to overcoming these challenges.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level AWS IAM professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level AWS IAM professional, you need a basic understanding of cloud computing concepts, AWS services, and foundational security principles, often demonstrated by an AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate certification. Familiarity with the AWS Management Console, IAM policies, roles, and access management tools is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly are important soft skills in this role. These skills and qualities are essential to ensure secure, compliant, and efficient management of user access and permissions in cloud environments.

What are Entry Level AWS IAM roles?

Entry Level AWS IAM roles typically refer to beginner positions focused on managing Identity and Access Management (IAM) within Amazon Web Services (AWS). These roles involve creating and managing user accounts, assigning permissions, and helping ensure the security of cloud resources. Entry-level IAM professionals often assist with setting up policies, troubleshooting access issues, and learning best practices for cloud security. The position is ideal for those new to cloud computing or AWS, looking to build foundational knowledge in cloud security and user management.

Job description

Office Location: Alexandria, VA (4 days per week in the office)

Accrete is an agentic managed services company: an AI workforce that does high-stakes, judgement-heavy work for government and enterprise clients - at the economics of software, not labor.

At the core is Accrete's Knowledge Engine, a dynamic context graph that captures an organization's tacit knowledge, resolves data across silos, and builds a living, auditable ground truth. Expert agents reason against that ground truth to act on complex, high-stakes decisions - not just answer questions about them.

From national security to commercial operations, Accrete delivers the work on one platform, with unlimited expert agents and expert judgement.

About the Role

Accrete is seeking an IT Associate to serve as a cross-functional member of our IT, Cybersecurity, and Accrete AI Government (AAIG) teams. Based in our Alexandria, Virginia office, this role will provide hands-on IT support while also assisting with cybersecurity operations, government security requirements, and CMMC compliance.

The associate will work closely with the broader IT and Cybersecurity teams while serving as an onsite point of contact for the AAIG team. This role is ideal for an early-career professional who wants experience across IT operations, security, compliance, and government-focused environments.

What You'll Do
  • Serve as a cross-functional partner between the IT, Cybersecurity, and AAIG teams.
  • Act as an onsite IT and security point of contact for the Alexandria office.
  • Provide day-to-day IT support while assisting with cybersecurity monitoring, incident response, access management, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Coordinate with the Cybersecurity team to implement and maintain security controls.
  • Support the AAIG team with government-specific IT, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Assist with CMMC and NIST 800-171 evidence collection, documentation, access reviews, and audit preparation.
  • Help ensure the Alexandria office, systems, devices, and employees meet applicable requirements for handling CUI.
  • Escalate technical, cybersecurity, or government-compliance issues to the appropriate team.
  • Participate in projects that may involve IT operations, cybersecurity, physical security, compliance, or government customers.
What We're Looking For
  • 1-3 years of experience in IT support, systems administration, or junior security roles
  • Strong fundamentals in:
    • Windows and macOS administration
    • Networking basics (VPNs, firewalls, Wi-Fi)
    • Endpoint security and device management
  • Interest in cybersecurity, compliance, and regulated environments
  • Ability to work onsite and support in-office teams
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow documented procedures
  • Clear communicator who can work with both technical and non-technical users
  • Comfortable working across multiple functions, including IT, Cybersecurity, and government operations.
  • Ability to understand where an issue belongs, coordinate with the appropriate team, and follow it through to resolution.
  • Interest in developing experience across IT operations, cybersecurity, compliance, and government-focused work.
Nice to Have
  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, CompTIA Security+, or a similar entry-level certification.
  • Basic understanding of AWS and Azure cloud environments, including identity and access management, logging, security monitoring, and least-privilege access.
  • Familiarity with cloud and security tools such as AWS Security Hub, Inspector, GuardDuty, Macie, Wiz, and CrowdStrike.
  • Experience with endpoint and mobile device management platforms such as Jamf and Microsoft Intune.
  • Exposure to identity platforms such as Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, or AWS IAM.
  • Familiarity with device provisioning, patching, vulnerability remediation, asset management, and basic security-alert triage.
  • Exposure to CMMC, NIST 800-171, CUI handling requirements, or other government and regulated security frameworks.
  • Experience supporting security audits, gathering compliance evidence, or maintaining IT and security documentation.
Why This Role Matters

This role ensures that Accrete's people, office, and systems meet the security standards required to support government work. You'll help protect sensitive data, keep teams productive, and gain hands-on experience in IT and security operations that are difficult to get early in your career.

Salary Range: 75k-90k

The salary range provided reflects the estimated compensation for this role based on the expected qualifications and experience level. The final offer may vary depending on factors such as skills, experience, and alignment with role requirements.
