An Entry Level Audio Visual Technician is responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting audio and visual equipment for events, meetings, and presentations. They assist with connecting projectors, microphones, speakers, and video conferencing systems. This role often involves working with clients, ensuring sound and video quality, and providing technical support. Technicians may also transport and maintain equipment. It is a great starting position for those interested in AV technology and event production.
As an entry-level audio-visual technician, your job is to set up AV equipment to meet the needs of an employer or client. This often involves testing sound equipment, engineering solutions to wiring and equipment placement challenges, and participating in training sessions to learn more about the equipment your company uses. Senior technicians often supervise entry-level audio-visual technicians, so you may spend most of your time working under the direction of others instead of independently. Entry-level AV technicians also perform inventory management, inspect current equipment, operate equipment during meetings and presentations, and carry supplies around as needed. Most of these jobs are available at larger companies or locations that require a lot of AV equipment, such as entertainment facilities.
A typical day for an Entry Level Audio Visual Technician involves setting up, testing, and operating AV equipment for meetings, conferences, or live events. You’ll troubleshoot any technical issues that arise, assist more experienced technicians with complex setups, and ensure all equipment is properly maintained before and after use. The work often requires collaboration with event coordinators, IT teams, and clients to deliver seamless presentations or performances. Depending on the employer, you may also handle inventory management and learn new technology as part of ongoing training.
To thrive as an Entry Level Audio Visual Technician, you need a basic understanding of AV equipment setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance, often supported by a high school diploma or relevant coursework. Familiarity with tools such as projectors, microphones, soundboards, and sometimes software like Crestron or Extron is typically required, and certifications like CTS can be beneficial. Strong communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities help you excel in team settings and dynamic event environments. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring seamless event execution and client satisfaction in a fast-paced, technology-driven role.
