About this role
This position is part of CME's long-term team growth strategy. We hire early-career engineers, invest in their development, and promote from within. As an Associate Engineer, you'll gain exposure to a wide range of municipal engineering disciplines including transportation, water and wastewater, and infrastructure while learning how projects move from planning and review through construction and completion.

Responsibilities
Municipal Review & Technical Analysis
  • Review site plans, subdivision and land development applications, and capital improvement projects for compliance with municipal ordinances, standards, and regulations
  • Support planning board and zoning board reviews by preparing technical comments and reports
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with boards, applicants, inspectors, and internal team members

Engineering & Design Exposure
  • Assist with design work on municipal infrastructure projects such as roadway improvements, including preparation of plans and specifications
  • Perform basic engineering calculations and analysis under the guidance of senior engineers

Construction Administration
  • Support construction-phase activities, including coordination with inspectors and review of field conditions
  • Gain exposure to how projects are implemented and resolved in real-world conditions

Team Collaboration & Development
  • Work closely with experienced engineers (including recently licensed PEs) who provide day-to-day guidance and mentorship
  • Participate in CME's peer mentor program and professional development initiatives

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or scheduled to take the EIT exam
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort participating in public meetings
  • Interest in and commitment to municipal engineering work
  • Willingness to work from and commit to the Neptune/Tinton Falls, NJ office

Preferred Qualifications
  • Internship or co-op experience in civil or municipal engineering
  • Familiarity with municipal infrastructure, transportation, or water/wastewater projects
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar engineering software
