Job description

As a Configuration Engineer Iย at Ursa Major, you will be an essential part of the team that ensures our hardware designs are correctly documented, traceable, and ready for release into manufacturing. This isย anย entry-level, individual contributor roleย intended for recent graduates or early-career engineers with a passion forย technical organization, digital systems, and aerospace product development.ย 

You'llย gain hands-on experience working within ourย Windchill PLM platform, supporting engineering change processes, document control, and configuration accuracy of CAD and BOM data.ย You'llย be closely mentored by experienced team members and play a key part in building andย maintainingย the digital foundation for Ursa's hardware programs.ย 

Responsibilities:ย ย ย 

  • Assistย in creating, tracking, and releasing engineering documents, part numbers, and drawings within theย PLM systemย ย 
  • Support processing of engineering change requests (ECRs) and change orders (ECOs), ensuring accuracy and compliance with workflowsย 
  • Maintain metadata, document links, and version history across CAD models, parts, and BOM structuresย 
  • Help review documentation packages for formatting, completeness, and compliance with internal configuration standardsย 
  • Coordinate with engineers to ensure CAD assemblies and product data are properly released and traceableย 
  • Support the creation and maintenance of engineering bill of materials (eBOMs) in PLMย 
  • Identifyย discrepancies in configuration data and escalate issues to senior team membersย 
  • Participate in the preparation of internal configuration audits and support responses to data requestsย 
  • Contribute to team documentation andย assistย inย maintainingย CM process guides and SOPsย 

Required Qualifications:ย ย ย 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical fieldย 
  • 0-2 years of professional experience, including relevant internship or co-op experienceย 
  • Familiarity with PLM systems (Windchill preferred) and an understanding of basic change control conceptsย 
  • Exposure to CAD tools such as Creo or NX; able to navigate assemblies and recognize part structureย 
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn configuration management best practicesย 
  • Excellent organizational and communication skillsย 
  • Enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and supporting hardware development programsย 

Preferred Experience:ย 

  • Internship or project experience involving engineering documentation, CAD, or data managementย 
  • Familiarity with part numbering conventions, document revision practices, or BOM structuringย 
  • Exposure to aerospace product development or manufacturing environmentsย 
  • Experience working in or learning about AS9100, ISO 9001, or other quality-driven environmentsย 
  • Interest in building long-termย expertiseย in PLM, configuration management, or CAD integrationย 

Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $72,000 - $90,000, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. What we can'tย quantify for you are the exciting challenges, supportive team, and amazing culture we enjoy.ย
