To thrive as an Entry Level 1099 Nurse Practitioner, you need a master's or doctoral degree in nursing, national NP certification, and an active state license. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic health records (EHRs), and basic billing systems is typically required, especially for independent contractors. Entry-level 1099 Nurse Practitioners often encounter challenges such as adjusting to independent practice, managing variable workloads, and navigating the business aspects of contract work. Building a strong professional network and seeking mentorship from experienced NPs can provide valuable guidance. Additionally, investing time in learning about healthcare regulations and business management helps ensure success and compliance in these independent roles.

What is an entry level 1099 nurse practitioner?

An entry level 1099 nurse practitioner is a licensed nurse practitioner who is just starting their career and is classified as an independent contractor rather than a traditional employee. The '1099' refers to the IRS tax form used for independent contractors, meaning they are responsible for their own taxes and may not receive benefits like health insurance or paid time off from the employer. Entry level 1099 nurse practitioners often work in a variety of healthcare settings, such as clinics, telehealth, or home health, and have flexibility in their work schedules, but must manage their own business-related responsibilities.
