Job description

Summary

Perform complex financial and business-related analysis, data manipulation and forecast preparation for Academic Affairs department, including internal and external grants, endowments, strategic projects and institutional funds. Apply results of analysis to produce monthly and annual financial reports, analysis and recommendations for administrative leaders.

Primary Responsibilities
Financial Analysis and Reporting
  • Analyze monthly financial performance compared to budget.

  • Generate and maintain monthly financial reports for department leaders for institutional, grant, project, and endowment accounts.

  • Generate monthly forecasts and submit to budget office and other internal stakeholders as needed.

  • Generate data and reports from MCW systems to analyze financial trends (revenue, expense).

  • Monitor monthly spend against budget and identify areas where expense management can be adjusted for annual budget cycle,

  • Perform complex analysis, data manipulation, and report generation that requires gathering data from multiple sources to generate financial analysis and reports.

  • Respond to ad hoc requests and provide financial interpretation and analysis.
  • Create financial presentations for various audiences and levels of complexity.

Budgeting
  • Assists with preparation of annual budgets including development of department budget guidelines, processes, and entry into the MCW budget system.

  • Serves as primary for approving expenditures against approved budget ensuring accuracy and timely completion.

Grants, Endowments and Project Accounts
  • Monitor grant expenditures to ensure compliance of grant requirements and partners with investigators on grant compliance. Serves as the primary budget analyst on grants and projects in eBridge.

  • Prepare ad hoc reports as requested.

Other
  • Provide guidance on MCW financial policies to ensure compliance.

  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for monthly financial reporting.

  • Identify and propose solutions to inefficiencies and opportunities for cost reduction.

  • Oversee completion of special projects as assigned.

  • Participates in department and MCW workgroups, committees and specific project groups as assigned.

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities

  • Knowledge of technical, business, consultation, project management, and cultural awareness.
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial reporting practices.
  • Knowledge and above average skills in Excel including heavy use and creation of pivot tables and linking large files and complex formulas.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Customer service focus, building trust, communication, critical thinking, and influencing skills.
Qualifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.

  • Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree

  • Minimum Required Experience: 5 years of progressive experience in financial analysis and/or budgeting

  • Preferred Education: Degree in finance, accounting, or business.

  • Preferred Experience: Experience in higher education
