Job description
Bloomfield Public Schools is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Early Childhood Instructional Assistant (ECIA) - elementary level.
Work Year: Ten-month position (192) days
Work Week: Thirty-two and a half (32.5) hours per week
Salary Range: Per BFEP Contract
Position Summary:
- Responsible to assisting and supporting teachers in regular, early childhood and/or special education classrooms in providing additional instruction and documentation throughout the day.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Implement lesson plans developed by the teacher in a variety of settings (classroom, school building, school grounds, field trips, etc.).
- Document progress/skills observed in the classroom.
- Implement appropriate instruction and strategies as outlined in an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), 504 Plan, Behavior Intervention Plan or Emergency Evacuation Plan.
- Assist the teacher in implementing appropriate behavioral supports and structures for individual children as well as groups of children.
- Assist children with daily living tasks such as toileting, diapering, eating and feeding etc.
- Interact with children and carry out appropriate activities in the outdoor learning environment
- Accompany, assist and interact with children during the children's lunch time.
- Assist children with daily transitions including but not limited to getting on and off school buses.
- Lift children as necessary to assist throughout the school day (loading into bus and booster seats, assisting children on and off swings and other playground equipment, lifting children on and off of toilets, etc.).
- Assist with set up of classroom and prepare materials for specialized instructional units at the direction of the classroom teacher.
- Assist in cleaning and disinfecting toys, furniture, equipment and classroom surfaces regularly.
- Operate standard school equipment such as computers, laminators, copiers, audiovisual and technological equipment, etc.
Education and/or Experience:
- A minimum of an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education.
- Prior experience working with preschool age children in a formal setting (daycare, nursery school, parks and rec. etc.) preferred but not required.
- Possess sufficient computer skills for data entry.
Effective Date: 2026/2027 School Year
