What is an entertainment manager?

Entertainment Managers are professionals responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing entertainment events or programs. They often manage artists, performers, or venues, ensuring everything runs smoothly from booking talent to handling logistics and budgets. Their duties may include negotiating contracts, coordinating schedules, and promoting events. Entertainment Managers work in various settings such as theaters, concert halls, hotels, resorts, or for individual artists. They play a crucial role in delivering successful entertainment experiences to audiences.

What does an entertainment manager do?

An entertainment manager is responsible for booking and supervising events for a corporation. You serve as a liaison between the booking entity and the performers. The role differs from an entertainment business manager, as you are working for the venue or corporation, as opposed to the performers. In addition to working with corporations, you may also work with venues like parks, hotels, or lodges. Your responsibilities include finding entertainers, negotiating contracts, overseeing marketing efforts, and managing a team tasked with carrying out the event. Having experience working with talent agents and event management can significantly improve your job prospects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entertainment manager?

To thrive as an Entertainment Manager, you need strong organizational skills, event planning experience, and a background in hospitality or business management. Familiarity with event management software, ticketing systems, and budgeting tools is typically required, along with relevant certifications in entertainment or hospitality management. Exceptional interpersonal skills, creativity, and the ability to multitask under pressure make someone stand out in this role. These skills are crucial for successfully coordinating seamless events, managing diverse teams, and ensuring client satisfaction in a dynamic industry.

What are some typical challenges entertainment managers face when coordinating live events?

Entertainment Managers often encounter challenges such as last-minute changes to event schedules, managing diverse performer needs, and ensuring technical requirements are met seamlessly. They must be adept at problem-solving and quick decision-making to handle unexpected issues, such as equipment malfunctions or artist delays. Strong communication skills are essential, as the role involves constant coordination with artists, technical staff, and venue management to deliver successful events.

What is the difference between Entertainment Manager vs Event Coordinator?

AspectEntertainment ManagerEvent Coordinator
CredentialsOften requires experience in entertainment or hospitality, sometimes certifications in event planningTypically requires event planning certifications or related experience
Work EnvironmentEntertainment venues, theaters, clubs, or production companiesConferences, weddings, corporate events, and public gatherings
Industry UsageUsed in entertainment, hospitality, and media industriesCommon across various event planning sectors

While both roles involve planning and coordinating events, an Entertainment Manager primarily oversees entertainment aspects such as artists, shows, and performances within venues or productions. An Event Coordinator handles the broader logistics of events, including venue setup, vendor management, and scheduling. The roles often overlap but differ in focus: Entertainment Managers specialize in entertainment content, whereas Event Coordinators manage overall event execution.

Are you looking for a dynamic and rewarding role in a family-friendly environment? Xplore, located in Beaverton, Oregon, is seeking enthusiastic and dependable individuals to join our team as Indoor Playground Floor Staff / Guest Services Team Members. If you enjoy working around children and families, thrive in a fast-paced setting, and want to be part of a team that creates memorable experiences, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

About Xplore

Xplore is more than just a family entertainment center—it’s a vibrant destination where guests of all ages can eat, drink, play, and celebrate together. Our facility features:

  • A large indoor kids’ playground and entertainment space
  • Four private party rooms for birthdays and events
  • An outdoor food cart pod with 22 food carts and a community gathering space
  • A full-service bar and dessert shop (coming soon!)

We are committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and fun environment for our guests while maintaining a high standard of hospitality and community engagement.

What You’ll Do

As a member of our Floor Staff / Guest Services team, you’ll play a key role in ensuring every guest has a positive and enjoyable experience. Here’s what your day-to-day might look like:

  • Monitor the playground and common areas to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Communicate playground rules to children and adults in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to families, caregivers, and groups.
  • Keep guest areas clean, organized, and sanitized throughout your shift.
  • Assist with birthday parties, field trips, and other group visits.
  • Help manage guest flow during busy periods and address any concerns promptly.
  • Support daily operations by assisting with opening/closing duties and facility upkeep.
What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is friendly, attentive, and thrives in a busy, family-focused environment. Here are some of the qualities and skills we value:

  • A positive attitude and strong customer service skills
  • Dependability and punctuality
  • Comfort working around children and families
  • Ability to communicate professionally and enforce rules respectfully
  • Willingness to clean and maintain guest areas
  • Ability to stay calm and focused in a fast-paced setting
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently

While prior experience in customer service, recreation, childcare, hospitality, or similar fields is helpful, it’s not required—we provide training to help you succeed!

Physical Requirements

This is an active role, so you should be comfortable with:

  • Standing and walking for extended periods
  • Performing routine cleaning tasks
  • Lifting and moving reasonable amounts of supplies or equipment
  • Responding quickly to assist guests

Why Join Xplore?

At Xplore, we’re more than just a workplace—we’re a community. Here’s what makes working with us special:

  • Employee discounts at Xplore
  • Flexible scheduling to fit your needs
  • A fun, active, and family-focused work environment
  • Opportunities for training, growth, and advancement based on performance
What Makes a Great Team Member?

Success at Xplore goes beyond just showing up. Our best team members are proactive, attentive, and take pride in keeping our space clean, organized, and welcoming. They notice when a guest needs help, when a rule needs to be addressed, or when an area needs attention—and they act on it. If you’re someone who takes ownership and works with a smile, you’ll thrive here.

Ready to Apply?

If you’re friendly, dependable, and excited to be part of a team that makes a difference for families, we’d love to hear from you! Please share your availability and any relevant experience when applying. Let’s work together to create unforgettable experiences at Xplore!
