What is enterprise search?

Enterprise search refers to the technology and processes used to enable employees to search for and access information stored across an organization's digital systems, such as databases, intranets, emails, and document management systems. Unlike consumer search engines, enterprise search tools are designed to handle structured and unstructured data from multiple internal sources while maintaining security and compliance. These solutions help organizations improve productivity, enhance knowledge management, and support better decision-making by making relevant information easily discoverable.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an enterprise search specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Enterprise Search Specialist, you need expertise in information retrieval, data architecture, and knowledge management, usually supported by a degree in computer science or information systems. Familiarity with enterprise search platforms like Elasticsearch, Solr, or Microsoft Search, and relevant certifications are typically required. Critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills help you understand user needs and translate them into effective search solutions. These skills are essential to ensure information is easily accessible, relevant, and secure across large organizations, directly impacting productivity and decision-making.

How does an enterprise search professional typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

Enterprise Search professionals work closely with departments such as IT, data management, and business units to understand user needs and business objectives. They often gather requirements from stakeholders, coordinate with content owners to ensure data is properly indexed, and partner with developers to optimize search algorithms. Regular cross-functional meetings and feedback loops are common, helping to ensure the search solution delivers relevant results and supports overall organizational goals.

Job description

SEO & AI Search Strategist

Location: Remote (US Based Only)  |  Full-Time

 About the Opportunity

emagineHealth is seeking an experienced, client-facing SEO & AI Search Strategist to join our growing Digital Marketing team. This role is at the intersection of traditional SEO and the rapidly evolving world of AI-driven search, including generative engine optimization (GEO) and visibility in platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity.

emagineHealth is the Digital-First agency for Healthcare and Life Sciences. With 26+ years in business and unmatched digital experience in the health sectors, you will be joining a team of elite digital marketers whose work has a real impact on patients, clinicians, and the life sciences industry at large.

Our clients operate in B2B life sciences, biotechnology, medical device, pharmaceutical, healthcare technology, and related sectors. We help connect them with the right audiences: clinicians, researchers, payers, and industry buyers. Your work will help ensure our clients are found not just in Google, but in the AI-generated answers that are redefining how information is discovered.

As a full-service agency, our SEO team has access to in-house brand strategists, designers, web developers, copywriters, and technical support staff.

 The Role

This is a full-time remote role responsible for creating, implementing, and managing complex search strategies, spanning both traditional SEO and AI-powered search optimization, for B2B life sciences clients.

This is not a heads-down execution role. You will have regular direct client contact, leading strategy conversations, delivering insights, and staying ahead of a rapidly shifting search landscape. The right candidate brings deep SEO expertise and a genuine curiosity about how AI is transforming search behavior and content discovery.

 Responsibilities

Client & Strategy

  • Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for dedicated client accounts
  • Develop and execute comprehensive SEO and AI search strategies aligned to client business goals
  • Lead regular client calls, translate data into clear insights and actionable recommendations
  • Report on performance and evolving opportunities across traditional and AI-driven search

Traditional SEO Execution

  • Perform website audits covering technical health, on-page factors, and content gaps
  • Conduct competitive research and keyword research; assemble prioritized recommendations
  • Execute on-page optimization and content updates within WordPress
  • Build and implement internal linking strategies
  • Explore buyer personas and map content to B2B buyer journeys

AI Search & Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)

  • Monitor and optimize client visibility in AI-generated answers across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and other generative platforms
  • Research how target audiences use AI tools to find information, and translate those insights into content and structure recommendations
  • Implement and validate structured data and schema markup to improve AI readability and citation potential
  • Guide AI content strategy, overseeing how AI-assisted content is created, edited, and published in alignment with brand and compliance standards
  • Stay current on GEO best practices, algorithm shifts in AI search, and emerging platforms

Reporting & Analytics

  • Deliver performance reports for clients across both traditional and AI search channels
  • Conduct data deep-dives using in-house, third-party SEO and analytics tools
  • Track KPIs, surface trends, and make data-backed recommendations
 Requirements
  • Experience: 3–5+ years of dedicated experience in SEO, digital content strategy, or web optimization, with a proven track record of adapting to generative search features.
  • AI & LLM Literacy: Deep understanding of how conversational AI tools retrieve and prioritize web content (Retrieval-Augmented Generation / RAG), and familiarity with prompt engineering concepts.
  • Semantic SEO Mastery: Expert knowledge of entity-based search tactics, semantic NLP (Natural Language Processing) optimization, and structured data implementation.
  • Analytical Rigor: Proficiency with GA4, Search Console, and enterprise SEO suites. Ability to build clean experiments, instrument data tracking, and let data drive strategy.
  • Technical Basics: Solid understanding of HTML/CSS, JavaScript SEO bottlenecks, and content management systems (CMS) to seamlessly brief web development teams.
  • Enterprise B2B Clients: Proven ability to manage multiple enterprise B2B client accounts simultaneously
  • Experience with Google Analytics 4, Google Search Console, and Google Tag Manager
