Job Description:

The Technical Consultant provides enterprise server hardware repair solutions for external customers, delivering technical support and solutions that align with business needs. This role requires Linux system administration experience in different customer environments. Serving as a trusted advisor by building and maintaining effective relationships to ensure high satisfaction. The Technical Consultant stays current on emerging technologies and industry trends, remains accountable for consistent customer support, and contributes to achieving team goals through standard delivery processes defined by the business unit.

This role applies developed subject-matter expertise to solve routine and occasionally complex technical hardware server issues, recommending alternatives when needed. The Technical Consultant may serve as a project lead, support junior team members, and exercise independent judgment while collaborating with others to determine the best approach for completing work and achieving objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware and software issues, prioritize urgent cases, and minimize customer disruption.
  • Validate and implement technical solutions to resolve issues to root cause.
  • Use Salesforce to track repairs, maintain accurate records, and close cases in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with customers and technical teams to deliver clear, efficient support and strong customer outcomes.
  • Complete advanced training in specialized compute, network, and storage operating systems.
  • Attend weekly internal and customer calls and complete assigned tasks within the project or contract delivery cycle.
  • Work independently, mentor team members, and communicate clearly with customers while resolving issues promptly.
  • Build positive relationships with team members and customers through clear, responsive communication.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues using internal knowledge resources and proven solutions.
  • Communicate effectively across the support delivery organization and add recognized value.
  • Serve as a role model and contribute to knowledge tools, articles, and communities to capture and share reusable learnings.
  • Model the company's culture, beliefs, and behaviors.

Requirements:

  • BS/BA or equivalent degree in computer science or a related field; without a degree, three additional years of relevant professional experience (8+ years total).
  • 5+ years of enterprise server hardware repair and Linux system administration experience.
  • Data center experience with the ability to work in a multi-technology environment and diagnose complex technical issues to root cause.
  • Participation in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support, respond within contract timelines, resolve or escalate issues, and minimize customer disruption.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% within the United States and Canada.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Self-starter able to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Extensive experience troubleshooting and diagnosing Linux-based hardware.
  • Ability to clearly communicate issue impact and expected outcomes to both customers and HPE teams.
  • Confidence communicating with internal and external senior management while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
