Job description

Position Summary:

This role includes assisting and supporting BSYO admin and conductors in set-up and teardown of rehearsal locations, serving as a mentor for students, and participating in rehearsals as an instrumentalist as necessary. The ensemble you are assigned to depends on ensemble needs and is up to the discretion of conductors.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Always be punctual and model professionalism for BSYO students, at rehearsals, backstage at concerts, and/or in the audience. BSYO rehearsals take place between 12:00pm - 8:00pm on Sundays, from August 30th - May 31st. Applicant must be available for all BSYO events that correspond to the ensemble they will be managing (approx. 4 hours during weekly rehearsals, longer on concert days but no more than 10 hours on any given week).
  2. Take initiative to mentor students on playing, set-up and tear responsibilities and stage deportment.
  3. Proactively remind students about appropriate rehearsal behavior – confiscate phones as necessary and remind students not to talk.
  4. Be prepared to answer questions about rehearsals and/or schedules, as described above.
  5. Some ensemble managers may be called on to lead sectionals, chamber music, or play in a section of any orchestra or chamber group
  6. Other duties as assigned by the BSYO administrative staff

Minimum Qualifications: (Essential requirements candidates must meet to be considered, e.g., education, specific years of experience, certifications, software proficiency.)

  • High School Diploma

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a music educator or as a professional musician in an orchestra
  • Experience with setting up a full symphony orchestra
  • This role requires the ability to lift up to 45 pounds regularly, carry and/or move equipment regularly and frequent standing, walking, pushing and pulling while teaching and supervising students to largely be responsible for this work.

BSYO rehearsal days (Sundays) between 12:00pm - 8:00pm, dependant on the orchestra that you manage. Rehearsals start on August 30th and go to May 17th, no rehearsals on Holidays, exact calendar given for review when an offer is extended.
