Summary/Purpose:

 

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing, integrating, and supporting control

systems used in product testing environments. This role bridges electrical engineering, automation,

instrumentation, and test execution—ensuring that custom test stands, automated rigs, and data

acquisition systems operate safely, accurately, and reliably.

 

Essential Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Test Equipment Controls Design & Development
    • PLC, HMI & Automation Programming
    • Test Execution Support
    • Safety, Compliance & Documentation
    • Testing System Support, Continuous Improvement & Innovation

 Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

  

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Serves as a subject matter expert in software and controls engineering, with an understanding of industry trends and best practices
  • Drives innovation in software and controls system design
  • Working knowledge of mechanical/hydraulic/electrical automation/mfg/test equipment
  • Design, develop, and improve control systems, including PLC, HMI, data collection, and test systems.
  • Develop electrical and control specifications for test equipment.
  • Program PLCs, HMIs, and related systems (Allen-Bradley, Keyence, Emerson, etc.)
  • Experience with hardware, sensors, interfacing test instrumentation
  • Experience with data acquisition, databases, network systems (Ignition, Red Lion, Keyence, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to communicate detailed results and provide training to other associates
  • Work with minimum supervision, self-starter with focus on detail, tracking, and documentation
  • Demonstrates exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Positive approach; team player; strong work ethic; high integrity.

 Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Expertise with PLC/HMI programming
  • Strong electrical design and CAD proficiency (AutoCAD, Solidworks, etc.)
  • Deep understanding of machine safety and standards
  • Proven experience managing multiple tasks/projects simultaneously
  • Data acquisition and instrumentation experience
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • PLC (Step7, TIA Portal)
  • Industrial networks (Modbus, EthernetIP, Profinet, Profibus)
  • VFDs, servos, pneumatics

 

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • The performance of this position requires exposure to manufacturing/testing areas which require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection.
  • Working with components up to 50 lbs
  • Hot oils, parts/slippery floors/varying low & high frequency noise levels. Occasional fumes/odors when working with oils
  • PPE required - safety glasses, steel toe shoes, ear plugs, and requirements to follow all safety guidelines
  • Majority of work required to be on site in Greenville Test Lab.
