As the Engineering Technician in Ludlow, MA, you will perform assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed and select or adapt standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents. Serco provides satellite communications (SATCOM), radar modernization, operations and maintenance, and sustainment services that enable customers to extend the lives of existing systems and achieve phased upgrades with new technology to enhance operational capability. Serco specializes in areas including obsolescence engineering, systems engineering services, test equipment design and build, and field engineering services, and maintains a near-field and compact antenna test range at Ludlow.
In this role, you will:
  • Conduct Antenna Range Testing.
  • Perform recurring work independently; work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions.
  • Perform at this level one or a combination of such typical duties as: Constructs components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment.
  • Possibly troubleshoot and correct malfunctions.
  • Follow specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
  • Conduct various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement; selects, sets up, and operates standard test equipment and records test data.
  • Extract and compile a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc..
  • Process data, identifying errors or inconsistencies; selects methods of data presentation.
  • Assist in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials which are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts.
  • Develop information concerning previous operational failures and modifications.
  • Use judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.
  • Receive initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance after hire.
  • US Citizenship.
  • High School diploma or GED.
    • Higher Level Education such as a Bachelor's degree will be considered in lieu of experience.
  • 2 years of experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and parts lists.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge in MS Excel software.
  • Understanding of mechanical assemblies and mechanical aptitude.
  • Foundational knowledge of electrical circuits and connections.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and DoD-style diagrams.
  • Ability to follow directions and performing basic tasks with attention to detail.
  • Familiarity of chemical adhesives and paints and willing to learn it further.
  • Familiarity with electrical diagrams and basic troubleshooting techniques.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to be a hands-on learner with a consistent drive to improve and develop.
  • Basic understanding of computer operations and software tools.
  • Ability to be a team player with a positive attitude and adaptability.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work toward project goals, and calculate adjustments or alternatives as needed.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to comply with PPE, FOD, and ESD safety standards.
  • Ability to complete tasks requiring fine motor skills and dexterity.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to enter confined spaces.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time.
