The Director of Engineering Systems Technology is a 12-month hands-on, academic and workforce leader responsible for building, scaling, and promoting a dynamic advanced manufacturing program that also encompasses state-of-the-art industrial maintenance technologies. This mission-driven role requires strong industry engagement, experience in program and curricular development best practices, and effective student recruitment/retention strategies to meet regional workforce needs in West Tennessee and beyond. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as the public face of the Engineering Systems Technology (EST) program at Dyersburg State Community College and position the program as the primary talent pipeline for industry in our region.

With strong support from institutional leadership, faculty, and regional partners, the Director will build, lead, and grow an engaging advanced manufacturing program grounded in an industrial maintenance technology focus that aligns with regional industry needs.

Implement recruitment best-practice strategies to attract high-quality students into the EST program and actively recruit high-performing students from the regional high schools.

Create, implement, and manage an enrollment strategy with measurable enrollment goals that leads to programmatic expansion.

Develop strategic industry partnerships that result in internships. apprenticeships, work-based learning, and customized training contracts.

Promote and foster alliances that result in philanthropic and in-kind support, including equipment, instructors, and donations to the DSCC Annual Fund or Foundation.

Collaborate with employers to design a curriculum aligned with regional workforce needs that promote real-world learning.

Lead program planning, scheduling. and resource allocation.

Providing considerable time for programmatic administration, teach 15-credit and non-credit EST courses each calendar year in one or more of the multiple advanced manufacturing disciplines such as lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen or multiple industrial maintenance disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, fluid power, robotics, PLCs, motor control, and 3D printing.

Recruit, develop, and supervise adjunct faculty.

Coordinate full- and part-time faculty delivery of instruction to diverse student populations, including traditional. non-traditional. and dual-enrollment high school students and deliver instruction in flexible teaching formats, including evenings, weekends, off-campus, in-person, hybrid, and remote lab-based instruction.

Establish and lead advisory boards (industry. student, community members, and guidance counselors) to strengthen programs, recruitment, and feedback loops.

Apply continuous improvement processes using student outcome data to enhance program effectiveness.

Engage in ongoing professional development, technical training, and participation in relevant trade organizations.

Support program operations through student advising, adjunct faculty development, grant assistance, communication, and institutional service.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Office Setting: Performs routine office responsibilities with occasional travel for college or program-related activities. Work requires minimal physical exertion and involves little to no exposure to hazards.

Lab Setting: Requires mobility for moderate lifting and setup of mechanical and/or electrical training systems. Work may involve moderate noise levels from compressed air systems or rotating equipment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate degree in one of the following:

  •  Advanced Manufacturing Systems
  •  Industrial Maintenance
  •  Engineering or related field
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

             Bachelor's degree or higher

             Significant industry leadership experience, particularly that emphasizes growth, expansion, and success

             Experience launching or expanding programs, training initiatives, or business units

             Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer for General Industry (OSHA 501 and 511)

             Experience in manufacturing, classroom and online training, and skills assessment.

             PMMI certifications (electrical, mechanical, fluid power, PLC)

Salary range:$56,534-$74,619
