Job description

Hookup System Engineer 

A job at TSMC Arizona offers an opportunity to work at the most advanced semiconductor fab in the United States. TSMC Arizona's first fab will operate it's leading-edge semiconductor process technology (N4 process), starting production in the first half of 2025. The second fab will utilize its leading edge N3 and N2 process technology and be operational in 2028. The recently announced third fab will manufacture chips using 2nm or even more advanced process technology, with production starting by the end of the decade. Hookup System Engineer

  • As a Hookup System Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting process piping, mechanical, or electrical systems for semiconductor FAB construction projects. You will participate in creating installation procedures, checking construction quality, and assisting multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth project execution and compliance. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to TSMC's global FAB expansions, including facilities in Arizona, Germany, Japan, and other regions.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and participate in the creation of installation procedures for process piping, mechanical, or electrical systems and assist in providing instruction to contractors regarding these procedures.
  • Verify construction quality for assigned systems by conducting on-site inspections to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Tackle technical challenges and implement innovative solutions that enable project success.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams, including project managers, schedulers, CAD designers, tool owners, and contractors, to support project deadlines and maintain quality standards.
  • Collaborate with contractors by providing technical guidance and assistance to ensure high-quality installations and efficiency during construction.
  • Improve overall construction quality and efficiency by identifying areas for process optimization and implementing recommendations.
  • Participate in specific projects related to your assigned discipline, assisting with planning, coordination, and execution.
  • Create after-action reports (AAR) in the event of incidents related to assigned systems by gathering data and contributing to lessons learned.
  • Other job-related duties as required by business needs.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Knowledge in AutoCAD and Navisworks
  • Interpersonal Skills:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.),
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with a proactive problem-solving mindset.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment and adapt to dynamic project demands.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Frequent grasping, manipulation, and occasional twisting, bending, stooping, squatting, or reaching, desk-based computer work, including data analysis and documentation.
  • Training:
    • N/A

Shift expectations:

  • All Hookup System Engineers may be required to work a Compressed Work Week (4-day on, 3-day off, 3-day on, 4-day off), and may be required to work night shift on a rotational basis.
  • Scheduled night shifts and weekend on-call rotations in a 24/7 high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Night shift rotations are expected to be no more than 4 months per calendar year.
  • Standard work hours: Monday through Friday
