The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Field Protection & Control Testing Technician/Technologist to join our team.

Test and commission the protection & control systems that bring critical power infrastructure online while working alongside experienced commissioning professionals on major utility and infrastructure projects across Canada.

In this role, you will test and commission protection & control systems, relays, SCADA, and MV/HV electrical infrastructure from construction through energization.

If you enjoy solving complex technical challenges, working with advanced testing equipment, and collaborating with experienced commissioning professionals, this role offers meaningful technical work and continuous professional growth.

This is a field-based position with travel to project sites across Canada on a 14/7 fly-in, fly-out rotation.

What You'll Do
  • Test and commission MV/HV protection & control schemes across utility, power generation, industrial, and infrastructure projects
  • Perform secondary relay injection testing using advanced relay test equipment including Omicron CMC356 and CMC500
  • Conduct SCADA point testing and system verification
  • Read and interpret drawings, schematics, and technical documentation
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during commissioning and startup
  • Prepare and submit detailed commissioning reports and project documentation
  • Contribute to the development of commissioning procedures and work instructions
  • Communicate with clients to address technical inquiries, discuss issues, and confirm resolutions
  • Ensure compliance with corporate, client, and industry safety standards
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technologist Diploma, or Power Systems Electrician Journeyman certification
  • 4+ years of relay testing experience focused on protection and controls within the electrical utilities sector
  • Hands-on experience with relay testing and commissioning
  • Working knowledge of Omicron CMC356, CMC500, or comparable advanced relay test sets
  • Experience with protection & control systems, substations, SCADA, and utility infrastructure
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer applications
  • Ability to work extended rotations and travel to project sites as required

Candidates must be legally authorized to work for any employer in Canada. Background checks and Drug & Alcohol testing will be required as part of employment, and candidates must have a valid driver's licence with a clean abstract.

Expected annual earnings: $165,000-$225,000, inclusive of base salary and overtime (actual earnings may vary based on experience and project requirements).
