Job description

Assured Information Security (AIS) has an opening for an Engineering Project Lead to join our Cyber AI team.  This role will support a team of software engineers and research scientists in delivering mission-relevant solutions in support of DoD customers. It combines hands-on technical leadership with people management, program execution, and customer engagement. Additionally, this role will contribute to business development efforts including proposals, whitepapers, and IR&D initiatives. *This onsite position can be based at either our Rome, NY or Catonsville, MD office* What You’ll Do: Team Leadership & People Management * Support the growth of a team of software engineers and research scientists
* Conduct regular 1:1s, support performance reviews, and career development conversations
* Partner with the program manager to set clear goals and expectations, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous growth
* Assist with recruiting, hiring, and onboarding in support of program needs
Program Execution * Partner with program manager to plan, staff, and execute software and cyber task orders
* Track engineering milestones, manage risks, and communicate status to government customers
* Ensure deliverables meet contractual requirements, security standards, and schedule commitments
* Coordinate across engineering, operations, and contracts teams to resolve blockers
* Develop and maintain a high-level understanding of multiple projects that cut across different application areas.
Business Development Support: * Collaborate with technical and business teams to support whitepaper and proposal development that demonstrate the company’s capabilities, innovative solutions, and the value we provide to clients.
* Coordinate and interact with existing and potential government customers to ensure the team is meeting their technical goals while setting clear technical boundaries to prevent scope creep.
Team Efficiency, Collaboration, and Process Improvement: * Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture that prioritizes team efficiency and the on-time delivery of high-quality results
* Identify and mitigate bottlenecks across the software development lifecycle
* Implement and refine engineering SOPs, workflows, and knowledge management practices
* Where appropriate, drive adoption of Agile/Scrum methodologies and ensure consistent execution across teams
Education/Experience/Skillset Required: * Bachelor's degree in a technical or analytical field with 5 years of experience in complex, high-stakes operational environments
* Minimum of 2 years’ experience managing and/or mentoring teams
* Demonstrated experience writing technical white papers and/or operational documentation
* Proven track record managing and mentoring teams, developing SOPs, and conducting performance-oriented feedback
* Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical or analytical concepts for senior stakeholders and mission partners
Clearance Required: Ability to obtain/maintain a clearance Travel: Up to 25%
