The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is adding an experienced Senior Civil Engineering Project Manager with a minimum of 10 years combined technical and project management experience in energy projects. The ideal candidate will be located in the Pacific Northwest and have a broad technical background across power generation technologies and proven ability to lead complex projects from inception through completion.
The Senior Civil Engineering Project Manager will be involved in client business development to sell and provide a variety of engineering services that support the development, design, construction, and operation of energy projects. Services may include, but may not be limited to, project feasibility, studies and design, and compliance support. Our ideal candidates will have existing client relationships and a proven track record of winning work within the energy market. The ideal candidate will be able to lead by example and understand the team's responsibilities because they have performed the same tasks in a previous role.
This is a strategic growth opportunity within Tetra Tech's Energy Program. This Senior Civil Engineering Project Manager will work as a team with Energy Initiative Program Leads to establish the strategic direction and growth of Tetra Tech's energy practice. Our ideal candidates will have experience and proven track record of building teams and winning work with the opportunity to develop and expand our team's energy practice to support multiple locations across Tetra Tech.

Your Role:
  • Lead and manage energy projects which may include planning, permitting, development, design, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams across variety of internal operating units, i.e., high voltage, SCADA, piping, instrumentation, oil and gas, etc.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, scopes, while adhering to Tetra Tech specific and industry established quality standards to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Lead proposal development efforts and manage awarded projects to meet or exceed financial and performance goals. Project Managers are assigned revenue, margin, leading indicator, and DSO goals.
  • Serve as primary client liaison, maintaining strong relationships and ensuring client satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, leveraging industry contacts and internal resources.
  • Oversee contract negotiations, risk management, and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, technologies, and regulatory requirements related to energy projects.
  • Strong business development capabilities, including the ability to cultivate and maintain client relationships, bring in new project opportunities, and manage a client-facing role with professionalism and expertise
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
  • Civil engineering degree preferred, other degrees may be considered based on overall strength of background and experience.
  • 10+ years of combined technical and project management experience in energy generation projects, with strong expertise in renewable (solar, wind, BESS) and/or thermal (natural gas, hydrogen) technologies.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure and willingness to obtain licensure in other states through comity/reciprocity.
  • Experience working in the Pacific Northwest; Oregon or Washington.
  • Proven track record in business development, client management, and proposal leadership.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies including change management, tools, and software.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively with diverse teams.
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook) and engineering discipline specific software.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Other Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent (preferred, not required)
  • Master's degree in business, engineering, or a closely related field (preferred, not required)
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • Data centers, fuel cells, hydrogen
    • Transmission and distribution, substations
    • Decommissioning and reclamation planning
    • Cost estimating and financial modeling
    • Electromagnetic field (EMF) studies
    • Grading and drainage design (H&H studies)
    • Environmental engineering plans (e.g., SWPPP, SPCC, WMP, ESCP)
    • Fire and safety management/action plans
    • Health and safety plans
    • Construction monitoring, condition assessment
    • Owner's Engineering and/or Independent Engineering
  • Experience with project scheduling software such as Microsoft Project, Planner (Tasks), Smartsheet, or similar tools
  • Experience with construction coordination platforms such as Procore, Construction Cloud, or similar systems

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to travel for project work, client meetings, and site visits as needed
  • Ability to perform office and occasional field-based work

Compensation:
Pay commensurate with experience.
Pay Range: $130,000 - $180,000 annually
