About the role

We are seeking a Software Engineering Manager to join our Technical Excellence team, leading the evolution of Hargreaves Lansdown's enterprise-wide AI enablement capabilities and shared engineering platform services. This role will be responsible for defining and delivering the roadmap for developer tooling and integrations across source control, CI/CD, artefact management, quality engineering, and developer experience, ensuring these services are reliable, scalable, and widely adopted across the organisation.
Leading multiple squads, you will be accountable for the performance, delivery, and growth of your teams, ensuring high standards throughout the software development lifecycle. You will help shape technical direction, drive engineering excellence, and influence technology decisions across the business. As a senior leader, you will build strong technical consensus, develop high-performing teams and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

What you will be doing:

  • Sets direction for all members of the team to deliver solutions to the business

  • Ensure the team works in an optimal way to deliver the outcomes of the team

  • Act as mentor and coach to staff

  • Ensure the team has the right balance and experience of team members

  • Work closely with the other senior members of the Platform & Product Teams, specifically engineering and Senior engineering management.

  • Encourages and facilitates the documentation of code and processes developed, specifically around the best practices for Agentic AI solutions.

  • Cultivate strong relationships with colleagues, business users and other technical teams

  • Set and review quarterly objectives/goals for team members

  • Review and discuss solution designs by team members, validating and seeking approvals' from the relevant technical authorities.

  • Hires new team members and ensure they are appropriately on-boarded

  • Motivating existing staff, aim to retain top talent wherever possible

  • Escalation of potential resource or infrastructure requirements or dependencies to team head

  • Schedule and host regular 1:1 meetings with team members

Working Schedule:

This role is based in Number One, Welcome Building, Bristol, BS2 0TR. This role is permanent, full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. We have returned to the office 2 days a week.
