Overview

Join AtkinsRealis as an Engineering Manager - Piping and Feeder Function within our Engineering Excellence team. In this leadership role, you will help deliver innovative engineering solutions for major nuclear power projects while leading a highly skilled team of engineering professionals. Working in a dynamic matrix organization, you will drive technical excellence, support project execution, and contribute to the future of nuclear energy in Canada.

Your Role

Provide technical management and leadership to a highly technical group in feeders, piping and supports design and analysis to accomplish the assigned project goals. This includes:

  • Approving technical documents and deliverables prepared by staff working under them.
  • Planning and executing work consistent with quality, cost and schedule requirements.
  • Removing barriers that would impact deliverables to meet project requirements and priorities, working with the assigned staff to find solutions and optimizations.
  • Providing technical advice to staff and as appropriate subject matter expertise to staff and management.
  • Participating in the preparation of commercial proposals and approving the technical content of proposals under their direction related to the new build project.
  • Forecasting resource demands for the assigned work scope, including skills, capabilities, and durations. Interfacing with clients and successfully delivering engineering products in accordance with customer specification and requirements.
  • The Manager will also oversee the work of 10 to 15 engineering staff. Supervisory responsibilities include:
    • Fostering a positive team environment where good performance is recognized and celebrated.
    • Coaching for improved performance.
    • Performing administrative tasks, e.g., timesheet approvals, vacation approvals.
    • Goal setting, Performance feedback and performance enhancement.
    • Training and Qualifications Planning and Management.
    • Forecasting resource needs and hiring for the function withing Engineering Excellence.
  • Working with marketing and other corporate groups to maintain and improve client relationships and offerings.
  • Initiate and execute organizational initiatives to improve efficiency, employee engagement and to foster collaborative environment.
  • Initiate and source appropriate resources through evaluation of resource demands.

About You

  • 10+ years of licensing experience in a nuclear project environment, including experience leading engineering teams.
  • Knowledgeable of CANDU Feeder and Piping systems in design registration phases to degradation mechanisms for fitness for service-related areas.
  • Experience managing and/or performing work under nuclear Codes and Standards such as CSA N285 & ASME Section III and ASME B31.1 codes and any other applicable standards or regulatory guides related to permanent plant components, pressure boundary equipment, and/or reactor systems is preferred.
  • Design engineering experience in nuclear class 1, 2, 3 and 6 piping systems, valves, pumps and for Nuclear Power Plants is preferable.
  • Experience in feeder and piping systems design, layout, stress analysis and FEA methods.
  • Experienced in the interpretation of GD&T.
  • Knowledge of analytical tools used for mechanical design (e.g., ANSYS, Mathcad, LS-DYNA, GT-STRUDEL, ABAQUS, Solid Works, 3D SMART PLANT or similar) is an asset.
  • Ability to work to budget and schedule. Must be willing to travel occasionally to participate in walkdowns, meetings and workshops.
  • Proven leadership skills, as technical guidance to assist and supervise analysts with good communication skills.
  • Eligible for nuclear energy worker (NEW).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Additional, preferred qualifications:
    • Engineering degree in a related engineering discipline.
    • Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, qualified to seal engineering documents.
    • Experience managing and/or performing multidisciplinary work with significant interfacing requirements with interfacing disciplines such as licensing, safety analysis, mechanical, process control, and civil engineering.
    • Experience working in a nuclear facility licensed in Canada, or Candu Reactors highly preferable.
    • Willing to travel to and potentially work at Project sites to meet project needs (Note: the home location is at the Mississauga head office in Ontario).
