What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Engineering Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Engineering Intern, you typically need a strong academic background in engineering principles, problem-solving skills, and progress toward a relevant degree. Familiarity with industry-specific software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MATLAB, or programming languages like Python is often required. Strong teamwork, eagerness to learn, and effective communication skills help interns integrate into project teams and absorb new concepts quickly. These skills and qualities are essential for delivering valuable contributions, adapting to workplace demands, and building a solid foundation for a future engineering career.

What types of projects can I expect to work on during an engineering internship, and how much responsibility will I have?

As an engineering intern, you can expect to work on a variety of projects ranging from assisting with ongoing research and development to supporting design, testing, or manufacturing processes. The level of responsibility often increases as you demonstrate competency, typically starting with supervised tasks and gradually moving toward more independent work. You'll likely collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other interns, gaining hands-on experience with industry-standard tools and practices. This exposure not only helps you apply classroom knowledge but also develops essential teamwork and communication skills highly valued in engineering roles.

What is an Engineering Internship?

An Engineering Internship is a temporary position for students or recent graduates to gain practical experience in the engineering field. Interns typically work under the supervision of experienced engineers, assisting with real-world projects, conducting research, and developing technical skills. These internships help students apply their academic knowledge, explore different engineering disciplines, and build a professional network. Most internships last a few months and can be paid or unpaid, depending on the company and location.

What is the difference between Engineering Internship vs Engineering Co-op?

AspectEngineering InternshipEngineering Co-op
CredentialsTypically students or recent graduates; no required certificationsUsually students enrolled in engineering programs; no certifications required
Work EnvironmentShort-term, project-based, often during summerLonger-term, integrated with academic schedule, often semester-based
Employer & Industry UsageCommon in engineering firms, manufacturing, tech companiesCommon in engineering firms, manufacturing, and corporate R&D

Engineering internships and co-ops both provide practical experience in engineering fields. Internships are typically shorter, often during summer, and suited for students exploring careers. Co-ops are longer, integrated with academic programs, offering more in-depth exposure. Both roles help build skills and industry connections, but co-ops usually involve more extended work periods and deeper engagement.

Job description

About The SilverLogic (TSL)
The SilverLogic (TSL) is a custom software development and technology solutions partner specializing in business automation and AI-powered innovation. We design and build tailored platforms that streamline operations, enhance decision-making, and unlock new opportunities for growth. Leveraging advanced technologies such as AI, process automation, IoT, and AR, within an Agile Scrum framework, we transform complex challenges into scalable, meaningful solutions.
Position Summary
The Design Intern supports digital product design and creative innovation at BRDGIT, powered by The SilverLogic (TSL). This role blends UI/UX design, visual storytelling, social media and marketing design, and hands-on experimentation with AI-powered creative workflows and tools. Beyond supporting client work, this internship is intentionally structured to explore emerging design tools, "vibe coding" workflows, and AI-augmented prototyping, helping the team experiment with what's next.
You will work closely with product designers, consultants, engineers, and the marketing team to:
  • Support real client-facing projects
  • Create social media, marketing, and digital content assets
  • Prototype AI-enabled interfaces
  • Explore and benchmark new design technologies
  • Test unconventional workflows that increase speed and creative leverage
  • This is not a production-only role. It is part creative execution and part innovation lab.

Key Responsibilities
Product & UX Design Support
  • Assist in designing user interfaces for AI-driven web and software products.
  • Create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes in Figma and Framer.
  • Contribute to user journeys, interaction flows, and UI systems.
  • Support the evolution of reusable design components and systems.

AI-Enhanced Creative Workflows
  • Experiment with generative design tools and AI-assisted prototyping.
  • Explore "vibe-coding" workflows, rapidly translating ideas into interactive prototypes using AI tools.
  • Research and test new design platforms, automation tools, and low-code environments.
  • Document findings and recommend workflows that improve speed, quality, or scalability.
  • Help prototype internal tools or AI-driven features that may evolve into client offerings.

Visual & Brand Execution
  • Create digital assets for AI-focused initiatives, landing pages, and presentations.
  • Support visual storytelling for AI case studies and thought leadership.
  • Assist in designing marketing materials, social content, and event assets.
  • Ensure brand consistency across digital experiences.

Innovation & Research
  • Conduct competitive and trend research in AI and digital design.
  • Identify emerging tools that could enhance the team's capabilities.
  • Help run small experiments around AI-human collaboration in creative work.
  • Contribute to documentation and knowledge-sharing across the team.

Learning Outcomes
  • Gain hands-on experience designing AI-enabled products.
  • Learn how AI tools can accelerate ideation, prototyping, and system design.
  • Develop practical experience with "vibe coding" and AI-assisted workflows.
  • Understand how consulting strategy translates into scalable digital experiences.
  • Build early-career experience inside a six-time Inc. 5000 recognized company.

Qualifications
  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Design, HCI, Digital Media, or related field, or strong portfolio equivalent.
  • Strong UI/UX fundamentals and visual design skills.
  • Proficiency in Figma (required). Framer, Webflow, or low-code tools are a plus.
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for AI-powered tools and emerging technologies.
  • Comfort experimenting, iterating quickly, and working in ambiguity.
  • Strong communication skills and openness to feedback.

Internship Details
  • Duration: 3-6 months (flexible start date)
  • Location: Hybrid (Boca Raton HQ preferred Tues. - Thurs.) or remote
  • Time Commitment: 15-25 hours per week
  • Compensation: Educational internship ($0)
  • Mentorship: Direct collaboration with product designers, AI consultants, and engineers
