OVERVIEW OF ROLE
Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Engineering, the Engineering Assistant  supports the maintenance and operation of building systems and equipment and assists with the general facilities needs of the museum as required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•    Develop and maintain a strong knowledge of the building structure and floorplans.
•    Perform preventative maintenance of facilities mechanical systems to minimize failures through work that includes but is not limited to:
•    Testing water systems and maintaining proper chemical levels;
•    Performing maintenance tasks on building equipment;
•    Maintaining overall cleanliness, condition, and safety of all mechanical areas, 
•    Ensure the completion of preventative maintenance tasks as scheduled.
•    Serve as contractor escort to monitor contractor activity, assist contractors, report summaries to the Senior Engineering Technician, and ensure contractors leave work areas clean and orderly.
•    Clean and maintain mechanical room drain pans, troughs and related systems to ensure proper operation
•    Perform light administrative tasks as assigned, including documentation, data entry, and work order updates
•    Perform monthly fire extinguisher inspections and coordinate with/escort third-party contractors for required annual servicing and compliance inspections
•    Clean, prepare and paint surfaces in mechanical spaces including walls, floors and equipment using various types of paints and coatings. 
•    Assist with general labor tasks, material handling and project support when needed
•    Maintain a positive work relationship with all staff in order to assist other departments as needed.
•    Together with Security ensure that the museum is free from danger, risk, or otherwise hazardous situations.
•    Work special events as needed.
•    Respond to emergencies and incidents 24/7 as an essential employee, including but not limited to weather emergencies, floods, fires, and environmental systems emergencies.
•    Assist with snow removal during snow storms.
•    All other duties as assigned.
 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of one (1) year of previous experience in the facilities, maintenance, or building operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical equipment and preventative maintenance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of proper use of hand and power tools safely; OSHA certifications preferred and training available upon hire.
  • Ability to safely complete tasks without direct supervision.
  • Able to multitask and take appropriate actions while performing under pressure.
  • Must be a team player and able to communicate effectively with staff at all levels and with representatives from outside agencies.
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work in varying conditions, including but not limited to:
    • Varying temperatures
    • Wet environment
    • Dusty conditions
    • Loud noises
  • Must be able to independently lift, push, and pull 50 pounds, use ladders and lifts, crawl in small spaces, and safely work in the vicinity of operating machinery.

SCHEDULED SHIFT
Monday through Friday from 9:00-5:00 or as required by circumstances and special events. Must be flexible to work overtime and on call as essential personnel.

HOURLY WAGE:  $21.55
