Essential Job Functions:

The partner must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation:

  • Lead the definition and documentation of common processes and 'best practices' for DC operations in partnership with DC Management. Drive accountability for adherence to these processes throughout the DC network. Maintain current and accurate process documentation for use by all DCs.

  • Direct all aspects of the Labor Management program across the DC network. Establish and maintain engineered labor standards based upon best practices. Develop and maintain a 'Pay for Performance' incentive program for DC associates. Partner with HR, Finance, and Supply Chain leadership to align, manage and communicate Labor Management policies and procedures. Maintain all documentation for labor standards and performance history as required.

  • Lead the design, configuration, operation and support of Labor Management systems (Manhattan LM, Time Clock systems, Time Study data capture system via tablet device). Partner with Petco IT and system vendors to drive needed system functionality improvements and maintain support agreements.

  • Identify, quantify and communicate opportunities for improvement in DC methods and procedures, layout, equipment, and general cost reduction. Bring cross-functional teams together to collaborate and drive alignment on needed improvements. Coordinate and manage the implementation of improvements. Demonstrate in-depth working knowledge of DC processes to support cross-functional continuous improvement efforts.

  • Lead the DC Slotting Program including the definition of strategy in partnership with Store Operations and Supply Chain. Lead the design, configuration, operation and support of the Manhattan Slotting Optimization system. Define, document and maintain DC slotting processes. Provide training and communication to DCs to ensure a common understanding and application of slotting strategies and processes.

  • Develop the annual departmental budget along with estimated DC savings and track the success. Responsible for the determination and execution of the DC capital budget. Partner with DC Operations leaders to determine requirements, provide business case support, source solutions, submit capital expenditure requests and coordinate ordering and installation.

  • Support the growth and development of the DC network including design, layout and startup of new DCs. This includes definition of processes, equipment and storage systems to be utilized in the DCs. Assist the Facilities team with the sourcing and installation of these systems into the Distribution operation.

  • Hire, train and lead a team of DC-based Industrial Engineers. Provide coaching and performance feedback for development. Define and manage the IE team strategies, priorities and budget. Align strategies and priorities with the Supply Chain leadership team. Participate in budget planning as required.

  • Hire, train and lead a team of DC-based Subject Matter Experts. Provide coaching and performance feedback for development. Coach the team manager to define and manage best practice documentation, alignment and effective training methods.

  • Develop and lead external partnerships (consultants, contractors, service providers) to supplement internal capabilities and bandwidth, meet business imperatives, benchmark performance and drive innovation.

  • Measure, interpret and report on the performance of Distribution operations. Provide interpretation and recommendations to DC management teams. Build staffing and planning models to aid DC management and Distribution network planning. Help determine KPIs and metrics to guide Supply Chain management.

  • Assist with the development, optimization and automation of business-critical reporting tools. Provide input regarding operational impact and end user functionality. Support implementation of new tools across the DC Network through remote and on-site knowledge downloads.

  • Responsible in managing OPEX, EH&S and other continuous improvement projects in Petco Distribution centers.

  • Mentor leadership teams in effectively measuring performance against customer requirements and executing improvement projects for process improvement using Six Sigma methodology.

  • Leads project teams and sub teams to develop and implement new programs, portfolio and process improvements. Manages projects in accordance with established Petco program management methodologies. Ensures that multiple projects meet specified timelines and deliver expected results.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering or related field from a four-year college or university.

  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience with at least 3 years in a retail distribution center environment including the management of direct reports in a collaborative team environment.

  • Experience with the development and maintenance of engineered labor standards and performance incentive programs.

  • Experience with Warehouse Management and Labor Management systems (Manhattan Systems WM and LM for open systems preferred).

  • Advanced knowledge of Labor Management and Incentive Programs including engineered labor standards and Labor Management systems.

  • Advanced knowledge of retail Distribution Center operations.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills as well as analytical capabilities are required.
