Position Summary

Griffon Aerospace is seeking a Mid-Level Aerospace Engineer to join our engineering team in Madison, Alabama.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Creating and refining CAD models (SolidWorks)
  • Produce detailed drawings with tolerances, materials, and manufacturing specs
  • Ensuring designs meet performance, weight, and safety requirements
  • Working closely with manufacturing, systems, test, and quality teams
  • Coordinating with suppliers and external partners
  • Participating in design reviews (PDR, CDR) and presenting your work clearly
  • Translating system-level requirements into design specs
  • Maintaining documentation (reports, design justifications, compliance matrices)
  • Ensuring traceability and adherence to standards (FAA, NASA, or internal)
  • Investigating failures or anomalies
  • Performing root cause analysis and implementing fixes
  • Making trade-off decisions (cost vs weight vs performance)

Required Qualifications

2-10 years' experience.

Education:

  • Bachelor's (minimum) in:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Aerospace Engineering
    • Robotics or Mechatronics

Core Technical Skills:

  • CAD & Design Tools
    • SolidWorks, CATIA, Autodesk Fusion 360

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Aerospace Field

  • Materials & Manufacturing
    • Lightweight composites, aluminum alloys, carbon fiber

  • Thermal & Structural Design

UAV-Specific Knowledge

  • Aerodynamics (lift, drag, airfoil behavior)
  • Propulsion systems (motors, propellers, batteries)
  • Structural design for airframes
  • Flight dynamics and stability basics
  • Payload integration (cameras, sensors, LiDAR)

Software & Programming (helpful)

  • MATLAB / Simulink

  • Familiarity with flight control stacks like PX4 or ArduPilot

Hands-on Experience
