Director, SEO/AEO

Lamark is seeking an experienced SEO leader to drive revenue and scale the SEO business unit as a core unit within the agency. The Director, SEO, is responsible for department performance, operational excellence, team leadership, and service innovation. This is a leadership role for someone who can think like an operator, act like a strategist, and build like an entrepreneur.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own SEO department revenue and strengthen client retention
  • Identify opportunities for organic growth and support new business by shaping SEO strategy, scoping, and resourcing
  • Ensure client strategies tie directly to measurable business outcomes
  • Oversee delivery quality and ensure consistent execution through scalable systems, QA processes, and reporting standards
  • Improve operational efficiency to drive stronger margins and align resourcing, forecasting, and capacity planning
  • Lead a team of 6, with direct management of the Associate Director and indirect oversight of the broader team
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and ongoing development of SEO talent by setting performance expectations, ensuring accountability, and elevating strategic thinking
  • Develop frameworks, playbooks, standardized deliverables, and SOPs that allow for team scalability and cross-team functionality, integrating automation and AI when applicable
  • Act as a senior strategic lead across key accounts, ensuring proactive, insight-driven recommendations that reinforce agency value

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • 8+ years of professional experience in SEO-focused roles, with demonstrated experience leading teams, owning client outcomes, and scaling operations.
  • Agency tenure: experience working in an agency or fast-paced digital environment required.
  • Accountability for retention, margin, revenue: previous positions have required management of department-level responsibilities.
  • Forward-thinking approach to organic: has already developed practices and/or packages for AEO, “search everywhere,” and has used automation and/or AI to improve efficiency or scalability.
  • Passion for people management: genuine interest in nurturing team members’ growth and experience leading other leaders.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills: ability to keep team delivery on track while managing strategic business priorities.
  • Presentation & Communication Skills: Strong ability to present ideas, strategies, and performance results to clients in a clear and persuasive manner.
  • Remote work experience: a history of successfully managing people and priorities in a remote setting through team collaboration tools.
