Position Summary
The Golf Car & Small Engine Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of the marina’s fleet of golf cars and small engine equipment.
This position ensures that all equipment is operating safely, efficiently, and reliably to support marina operations and provide a positive guest experience. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to preventative maintenance and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
- Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain gas and electric golf cars
- Service small engine equipment, including generators, pumps, pressure washers, and security vehicles
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and fuel system issues
Preventative Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, battery service, brake adjustments, and tire repairs
- Maintain preventative maintenance schedules to ensure equipment reliability
- Identify potential issues and address them proactively
Fleet Support & Operations
- Ensure all equipment meets safety and operational standards
- Assist with maintaining readiness and availability of fleet equipment
- Respond to equipment issues impacting marina operations
Parts & Inventory Coordination
- Identify required parts and materials for repairs
- Assist with tracking inventory and maintaining adequate supply levels
- Coordinate with supervisors on ordering and procurement needs
Documentation & Recordkeeping
- Maintain accurate service, repair, and maintenance records
- Document equipment condition and completed work
Safety & Work Environment
- Follow all safety policies and procedures
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Use proper tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE)
Team Coordination
- Work collaboratively with marina operations and management teams
- Support operational needs across the marina as required
General Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Respond to emergency or on-call repair needs as required
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- 2–3 years of experience working with golf cars and/or small engines preferred
- Experience with gas-powered and electric equipment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Basic understanding of electrical systems and diagnostics
- Ability to read and interpret manuals, diagrams, and service instructions
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
- Dependable, self-motivated, and safety-conscious
Licenses & Certifications
- Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license (or ability to obtain) and maintain a driving record that meets District standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with brands such as Club Car, E-Z-GO, Yamaha, or similar
- Welding or fabrication experience
- Experience in marina, resort, or fleet maintenance environments
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
- Ability to safely perform work using proper body mechanics and ergonomic practices
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and perform repetitive tasks
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed
- This is a safety-sensitive position. Candidates must successfully pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and may be subject to random testing in accordance with District policy
Working Conditions
This position operates in both outdoor and shop environments within a fast-paced, customer-focused marina setting. The role involves exposure to weather conditions, mechanical equipment, and active operational areas.
