Job description

Engine Machine Operator

Estes Rockets, located in Penrose, CO, the world-renowned leading manufacturer of innovative hobby products for the model rocket industry, is looking for an Engine Machine Operator to run engine machines that make Estes model rocket motors/engines. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Set up and load machine with assigned engine type
  • Inspect engines being produced
  • Fill out labels for engine type and daily production paperwork
  • Wear protective equipment including safety glasses, earplugs, coveralls, conductive boots, and conductive wrist straps
  • Follow all safety procedures and all engine manufacturing procedures
  • Assist in unloading black powder and delay powder shipments
  • Communicate any problems to engine manufacturing supervisor or engine manufacturing lead operator
  • Test model rocket engines
  • Adjust on powder measures
  • Keep machine and work area clean
  • Other duties as directed by department manager

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to perform minor maintenance on machines, repair or replace parts, clamps, pushrods, rams, drifts, pneumatic cylinders, and pneumatic switches
  • Must be able to perform manual labor
  • Must possess manual dexterity
  • Good hand eye coordination is required
  • Must maintain excellent attendance
  • Good math skills as they apply to production and inventory counts
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisor and peers verbally and in writing
  • Must be able to work alone with indirect supervision of lead person and engine manufacturing supervisor

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must be able to work overtime as directed

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to stand and work on feet for the entire day
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to push or pull up to 180 lbs. on a cart
  • Must be able to push or pull up to 1200 lbs. on a pallet jack
  • Must be able to stand or walk 95% -100% of shift
  • Must be able to move about with no difficulty to keep pace with established job production standards
  • Must be able to reach, bend, twist, stoop, kneel and crouch with no difficulty
  • Finger dexterity required to perform the tasks of each production station without difficulty

Work Environment:

  • Must be able to work in outdoor environment
  • Will be exposed to cold weather, hot weather, rain and snow
  • Noise level moderate (hearing protection required and provided)

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • The candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a thorough background check in order to become licensed with the State of Colorado Explosives Board, The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and the Department of Homeland Security. Any job offer made will be contingent upon the results of this background check and the ability to obtain the required licenses.
