Job description

Overview

The Environmental Manager is responsible for the management of facility environmental programs at the site. This role is crucial in ensuring that our operations align with headquarter sustainability goals and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local environmental regulations. You will lead initiatives to minimize environmental impact and ensure continuous improvement in environmental performance.

About the work location:

Manchester is a city in Delaware County, Iowa, United States, located along the Highway 20 corridor between Dyersville and Independence.  Delaware County is centrally located just 45 minutes from some of Iowa's biggest hubs (Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, and Dubuque) - but you don't need to go far to find excitement.  Delaware County is home to several golf courses, parks, museums, retail shops, a movie theatre, festivals and fairs, water sport recreational areas, and evening entertainment. Delaware County offers successful academics programs in three community school districts and a critical access hospital to provide healthcare close to home.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluation, coordination and implementation of programs, policies, practices and activities to control air emissions, monitor industrial wastewater treatment and discharges, manage and minimize solid and hazardous waste, and manage activities required under the Toxic Substances Control Act, the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act and all other applicable environmental laws and regulations.
  • Overall supervision of applicable programs and activities required under the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR)
  • Overall supervision of environmental control equipment status and performance.
  • Auditing of facility programs to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Supervision of facility inspections, maintenance of required records and timely submittal of required reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Collect and maintain data for environmental metrics tracking and reporting.
  • Coordination of environmental improvement projects as required.
  • Coordination with Corporate Environmental Resources Department on facility programs, activities, and responses to regulatory agencies.
  • Training and oversight of facility personnel performing environmental duties. Hazardous waste training shall be provided to the employee within six months of the hire date of this position. Review of this training is provided every 12 months thereafter. The employee will complete a program of classroom instruction or an equivalent online course. The employee shall be supervised until training is completed. The training shall consist of a review of proper management of hazardous waste, satellite accumulation containers, how to review and prepare a hazardous waste manifest, and proper labeling requirements.
  • Comply with current Quality Systems requirements.
  • Attend all meetings and training as scheduled.
  • Undertake assigned projects as directed by Plant or Department Manager
  • Perform other work as assigned by Management including 5S cleaning.
  • Additional responsibilities as neededto support the team and company goals. 
Qualifications

Education, Experience, Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in environmental/safety, and/or 5 plus years' experience in Environmental related fields.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret federal, state and local regulations and technical procedures.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of EHS laws and regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively with other departments in the development of EHS programs.
  • Ability to work effectively with various software, office equipment, and PPE equipment as required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting, standing, bending, twisting, and walking as necessary.
  • Wearing proper PPE is required.
  • Occasional lifting from grams up to 50 pounds

ENVIRONMENT

  • This position requires you to be on site at our Manchester, IA manufacturing facility.
  • Exposure to extreme environmental conditions. (hot, cold, humid)
