Job description

GDS Associates, Inc. has an exciting and challenging full-time opportunity with advancement and growth potential for an Energy Markets Analyst to work in our Planning & Advisory group. The analyst position will work in direct support of GDS' expanding Western Markets consulting team, offering the opportunity to shape the future of the energy transition.

The successful candidate will be responsible for transforming complex grid and market data into actionable insights that drive our technical advisement to clients across the Western Interconnection. Your work will directly support decision-making in CAISO, WECC, and emerging regional markets (like Markets+ or EDAM).

GDS is a nationwide multi-service engineering and consulting firm specializing in the energy utilities industry. We have a significant and growing practice in the power supply planning area representing electric utility and renewable/battery developer clients in the procurement, planning, and effective management of power supply resources in structured and unstructured markets across the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Data Pipeline Management: Assist in the extraction and cleaning of large structured and unstructured datasets from CAISO OASIS, CAISO/WECC reports, and FERC Electronic Quarterly Reports.
  • Market Monitoring: Track and report on Locational Marginal Prices (LMP), transmission congestion, and curtailment trends across the west.
  • Dashboard Development: Create and maintain automated Power BI or Tableau dashboards that visualize key client metrics such as congestion, renewable curtailment, renewable penetration, and generator availability.
  • Regulatory Analysis: Monitor and summarize stakeholder proceedings from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), CAISO, and FERC that impact Western wholesale market design.
  • Ad-Hoc Market Forensics: Conduct "post-mortem" analyses on high-price events, grid stress days, adverse market settlement outcomes, to identify the root causes in support of client management strategic decision making.
