Endpoint Management information

What is endpoint management?

Endpoint management refers to the processes and tools used to monitor, manage, and secure devices such as laptops, desktops, smartphones, and tablets connected to a corporate network. The goal is to ensure that all endpoints comply with organizational policies, receive necessary updates, and are protected against security threats. Effective endpoint management helps IT teams maintain device health, automate software deployments, and respond quickly to vulnerabilities, improving both security and productivity.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an endpoint management specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Endpoint Management Specialist, you need expertise in IT administration, operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), and strong troubleshooting skills, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (SCCM), Intune, JAMF, and relevant certifications such as CompTIA or Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential for collaborating with teams and resolving user issues. These skills ensure secure, efficient device management and support organizational productivity in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in endpoint management, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Endpoint Management often encounter challenges such as managing diverse device types, ensuring consistent security updates, and supporting remote or hybrid users. Staying current with evolving operating systems and software versions, as well as responding to security threats, are also ongoing concerns. To address these challenges, it's important to implement standardized configuration policies, utilize centralized management tools like Microsoft Intune or VMware Workspace ONE, and maintain clear communication with end-users and IT teams. Regular training and proactive monitoring can help mitigate risks and improve overall endpoint security and performance.

What is the difference between Endpoint Management vs Network Administrator?

AspectEndpoint ManagementNetwork Administrator
Primary FocusManaging and securing end-user devices like laptops, smartphones, and tabletsMaintaining and troubleshooting network infrastructure such as routers, switches, and servers
Required SkillsDevice management, security protocols, endpoint security toolsNetwork protocols, routing, switching, network security
Work EnvironmentIT support teams, device management platforms, enterprise environmentsNetwork operations centers, enterprise networks, data centers
CertificationsCompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop AdministratorCisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+

While both roles involve IT security and infrastructure, Endpoint Management focuses on securing and managing end-user devices, whereas Network Administrators oversee the broader network infrastructure. Understanding these differences helps organizations assign the right roles for their IT needs.

What does an endpoint management do?

An endpoint management professional oversees the deployment, security, and maintenance of devices such as computers, mobile phones, and tablets within an organization. They use tools like endpoint security software and remote management platforms to ensure devices are protected and functioning properly, often working closely with IT teams to enforce policies and troubleshoot issues.

Job description

About the Role

We are growing and expanding our Endpoint Management & Security product team and are looking for a Product Manager to join a group of PMs working together on the capabilities that power NinjaOne's approach to reducing attack surface, including risk analysis and remediation, across managed endpoints. This role reports to the Director of Product Management and operates as part of a highly collaborative PM team focused on building and evolving the tools IT and security teams rely on to keep endpoints secure and risk exposure low.

This role covers capabilities that sit at the intersection of IT operations and security, helping customers spot where they're exposed and take action to close those gaps before they become problems. While these capabilities are deeply technical in nature, this is a product role focused on defining the right features, workflows, and abstractions that allow IT teams and MSPs to identify, prioritize, and remediate risk across their endpoint fleet efficiently, safely, and at scale. We're looking for someone equally comfortable in IT operations and security contexts — candidates with a background in either (or both) are encouraged to apply.
You will work closely with engineering, design, and cross-functional partners to shape product direction, define roadmaps, and deliver high-impact capabilities that strengthen customers' security posture across their environments. You'll also collaborate closely with other Product Managers to ensure NinjaOne continues to lead the market in how modern endpoint management platforms are designed, used, and evolved.
If you enjoy building core product capabilities, working close to real-world IT and security use cases, and helping define what "great" looks like when IT operations and security work as one, we'd love to hear from you.

Location - We are flexible on remote working from home, if you are located in the USA and reside in one of the following states - CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, *IL, KS, ME, MA, MD, NJ, NC, NY, OR, TN, TX, VA, & WA.

What You’ll be Doing

  • Product Vision & Leadership
Help define and evolve the vision for NinjaOne’s endpoint management and security capabilities, ensuring we continue to lead the market in functionality, usability, innovation and flexibility.
  • Roadmap & Prioritization
Contribute to and own key parts of the endpoint management and security roadmap. Evaluate opportunities, set priorities, and make trade-offs that deliver the most value to customers and the business.
  • Endpoint Management Capabilities
Drive product direction for features to identify security gaps, and remediate or protect against them.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with engineering, design, support, and other stakeholders to bring new capabilities from concept to delivery, ensuring features are well-defined, usable, and solve real customer problems.
  • Customer & Market Insight
Engage with customers, MSPs, and internal teams to understand how endpoint management and security features are used in practice. Translate those insights into product improvements and new capabilities.
  • Product Craft & Execution
Write clear product requirements, define workflows and edge cases, and ensure features are delivered to a high standard. Iterate based on feedback and usage data.
  • Platform & Ecosystem Thinking
Ensure capabilities work cohesively across NinjaOne and enable other product areas to build on top of them effectively.
  • Other duties as needed

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred, but not required.
  • 5+ years of experience in IT/security or technical roles such as managing or working in an IT helpdesk, at an MSP, or in an internal IT/security team.
  • 2+ years of Strong Product Management experience, ideally with B2B SaaS or IT management products.
  • Solid background in operating systems or system administration, such as:
  • Windows, macOS, or Linux administration
  • Endpoint management, device configuration, automation, or scripting
  • Experience in MSP, internal IT, or infrastructure-focused roles
  • Deep understanding of how IT teams manage endpoints in real-world environments.
  • Comfortable working closely with engineers and understanding technical concepts without needing to write production code.
  • Proven ability to take product features from idea to delivery and iterate based on customer feedback.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Data-informed decision maker who balances customer needs, product quality, and business priorities.
  • Able to influence and align stakeholders without formal authority.
  • Experience working in a collaborative, multi-PM environment is a plus.
