Job description


BAE Systems Inc is hiring a Human Resources Business Partner to join our HR team in Radford, VA! This position will be located at Radford Army Ammunition Facility where BAE Systems is the primary contractor operating the facility. The facility manufactures high quality explosives and propellants on a site that covers approximately 6,000 acres with an employee headcount of approximately 1,200 employees, of which 750 are represented by a collective bargaining agreement between BAE Systems and United Steel Workers (USW).

The Human Resources Business Partner will act as a change champion and serve as a performance improvement driver to provoke positive changes within the people management culture. Assist in leading change management projects to further advance the culture. Build strong business relationships with the internal customer and act as the point of contact for employees and managers of assigned areas. Assist and lead employee relation efforts, to include employee relation investigations, communications, and trainings. Assist in working with the training department to develop training programs to enhance employee and supervisor development.
Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a primary contact to assist/direct employees in referring them to the BAE Systems Resource Center for benefit problems and enrollment
  • Manage the HR new hire orientation process
  • Work with the HR COE and the area manager in the employee leave process, including coordinating employees return from leave; working with managers in managing FML cases; transitioning employees from short term and long term disability; and managing ADA restrictions
  • Responsible for management of the I-9 process
  • Assist the Labor Lead in the labor management process, to include participation in the grievance process, grievance log entry, grievance scheduling, internal bid process, etc.
  • Lead and assist the HR Manager and overall HR department in employee relation investigations and draft executive and investigative summaries
  • Partner with managers and the talent acquisition group to help mediate and expedite the recruiting efforts and process
  • Maintain union seniority list, grievance log, leave report, and various HRIS entries and reports
  • Assist in the development of HR projects that help drive a culture of diversity and inclusion
  • Partner with leaders of assigned area on Talent Management, Succession Planning, Performance Management, Knowledge Transfer, etc.

Required Skills and Education
  • Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of related work experience or equivalent experience
  • Experience in Human Resources
  • Experience in Labor Relations
  • Experience in Employee Relations/Engagement
  • Experience in Manufacturing, Production, Distribution, or similar environment
  • Ability to support labor relations, grievance processes, and CBA compliance within a unionized manufacturing environment
  • Ability to manage relationships with leadership and union representatives
  • Ability to display a high level of work prioritization, time management, and customer follow-through
  • Ability to work independently and use good judgement under pressure
  • Professional and approachable displaying solid interpersonal skills
  • Team player that can work within a matrix organization
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to work well within a HR COE/Shared Services model
