We're looking for an experienced Employee Benefits Manager to lead the strategy and administration of our self-funded benefits programs. About the Role

As our Employee Benefits Manager, you'll provide strategic oversight of our self-funded employee benefit programs, voluntary benefits, wellness initiatives, and ancillary offerings. You'll partner directly with our Director of Total Rewards and Talent, Chief Human Resources Officer, benefits broker, and benefits leadership committee to shape a benefits strategy that reflects our values supporting our people the same way we support Virginia's agricultural community.

This role offers real strategic ownership: you'll lead vendor relationships, drive open enrollment, guide compliance efforts, and bring fresh insight to how we care for our employees and their families.

What You'll Do
  • Own the selection, management, and performance of all employee benefits Healthcare, Wellbeing, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, FSA, and HSA
  • Partner with our broker, carriers, and leadership to build our annual benefits strategy and budget
  • Lead the company-wide open enrollment process, including employee education sessions and communications
  • Manage benefits vendor contracts and relationships, ensuring quality service delivery for the company and our employees
  • Administer Leave Management programs (FMLA, STD, LTD) in partnership with Legal, HR Business Partners, and Payroll
  • Support the HR Business Partners in the administration of workers comp and manage the performance of the Workers Comp vendors. Support Workers Comp audits, as needed.
  • Lead benefits enrollment for new hires during orientation
  • Administer all non-retirement program employee benefits plans to include group medical, dental, vision, life, disability, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, and wellness programs.
  • Ensure compliance with ERISA, regulatory reporting (1095-C, W-2, EEO), and plan documentation (SPD, Wrap Document)
  • Keep abreast of regulatory compliance changes for employee benefits.
  • Analyze enrollment, financial, and health outcome data to continuously improve our offerings
  • Conduct employee feedback sessions and/or surveys to gather feedback about employee benefit offerings
  • Partner with the Payroll team for funding all benefits such as the Health Savings Accounts, Flexible Spending Accounts, and other benefits.
  • Administer Cobra packages and plans as requested by HR business partners.
  • Administer retiree benefit plans including group medical, dental, vision, life, disability, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, wellness and 401(k) (in collaboration with the senior manager of Payroll for retirement plans.)
  • Ensure all benefits policies and reference documents on the intranet are updated to reflect current products, policies, procedures, costs, & other information as required by regulations and as needed by employees.
  • Develop ongoing insights and advice to share in employee communications channels that support improved health and wellness with employees and their family members who are covered by our plans and cost containment.
  • Champion company-wide wellness programs that support real, measurable health improvements
  • Serve as the go-to resource for managers and employees, delivering timely, accurate, one-call resolutions to benefits questions
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed
What You Bring

Required:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience managing self-funded benefits administration
  • Strong understanding of HR systems and advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency (ADP a Plus!)
  • Proven analytical ability and sharp attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities

Preferred:

  • 5+ years of benefits management experience
  • College degree (or commensurate experience)
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or CEBS certification
