Job description


Maintains the integrity of the Enterprise Master Patient Index. Analyzes work queues to identify medical records to be merged or corrected. Analyzes, assesses, and performs chart corrections and EMPI maintenance, ensuring
one record per patient is preserved and that the integrity of each record is maintained. Works with close supervision and within established policies/practices and guidelines.
Principal Accountabilities:
• Maintains integrity of the enterprise-wide Master Patient Index to ensure patient health information resides under a unique EMPI number.
• Performs analytical reviews of clinical and demographic information and verifies assignment of duplicate numbers to the same person to ensure patient safety.
• Provides timely response to all incoming calls and/or emails related to duplicates.
• Communicates and collaborates with internal and external customers to resolve complex chart issues.
• Assists in identification and communication of areas of non-compliance with established policies and procedures to decrease the creation of duplicate medical records, registration errors, and other medical record errors.
• Demonstrates advanced critical thinking, reasoning, problem-solving, decision-making ability.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor or Associate degree in Health Information Management, Health, Information Technology, or related field or Bachelor or Associate degree with two years of related experience.
Preferred:
• Experience working in Acute care hospital or relevant area.
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential.
• -Skills/knowledge/abilities gained through 0-2 years of related experience
• -Epic experience preferred
