The Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) Analyst will provide technical support, maintenance, front line production support, and project planning related to the EMPI and Transcription systems/processes.  This position will have report writing responsibilities, provide analytical support, and testing coordination. The EMPI Analyst will lead and attend discussions/meetings that influence EMPI/Transcription, with all levels of the organization.  Provide support to other functions of the HIM Tech Team including (but not limited to) EHR documentation, message center communication, system testing, and data security audits. Under the direction of the Director/ Technical Support Supervisor, the EMPI Analyst will perform all tasks and duties in accordance with established standards, policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.


Education:

·       Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business, Health Care or related discipline or 3-4 years experience in clinical operations, business, Information Systems, or other related field required.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

·       Certification in Health Information Management (RHIA, RHIT, CPHIT, CPEHR, other) preferred.

Experience:

·       Two to four years of Information Technology, project management or experience on large departmental application build required.

·       Must have experience in medium to large project management, possess sound decision-making ability, operate well under pressure and be tenacious in resolving difficult problems.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

·       Demonstrated understanding of computer systems and processing.

·       Evidence of leadership, training, creativity, integrity, and initiative.

·       Must possess strong oral and written communication skills, planning skills, problem-solving skills, and change management skills.

·       Extremely strong skills in personal diplomacy; demonstrates personal traits of a high level of motivation, team orientation, professionalism and trustworthiness.

·       Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with staff at all levels of the organization required, including medical staff.

·       Support the department director on all key strategic initiatives and daily operational tasks.

·       Availability for system support which may include, but is not limited to, 24 hour and/or weekend call for systems.


  1. Independently manages the daily operation of transcription and related functions. Process dictated reports via the transcription system and maintains the database for all users and physicians.  Supports document faxing distribution, physician directory and follow-up, troubleshooting, and testing.
  1. Independently manages the daily operational needs related to the EMPI function in conjunction with IT production support, end users and management. Develops maintenance and support procedures for system operations. Provides front line EMPI support on a daily basis for all assigned applications/systems related to the EMPI. Analyst will be responsible for ensuring changes are made appropriately, accurately and timely. 
  1. Analyst will escalate technical issues as appropriate to Information Technology department and vendor. Attends weekly/monthly meetings to represent HIM/EMPI/Transcription as deemed necessary. Analyst will provide communication of high level information and any key developments to their direct report.
  1. Independently analyzes project requests and follows up timely and accurately with departments/personnel as needed.
  1. Develop reports and work lists as requested by management and end-users. Complete thorough analysis of all report requests to determine operational viability and process improvement from reports. Assists with project evaluation and benefit analysis reporting after implementation of all software and code upgrades.
  1. Coordinates flow of information between various departments (Radiology, Lab, etc.) to ensure changes in processes, systems and data is fluid and flows appropriately through systems. Maintain departmental procedures for efficient and designed system use. 
  1. As needed, evaluate various operational issues and processes and present findings with appropriate recommendations. Provides data and direction for monthly departmental performance dashboard.  Documents requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, report requirements, interfaces with other systems, internal and external checks and controls, and outputs in conformance with HIPAA regulations.
  1. Develops test plans and complete testing with a pre-defined test plan in order to minimize the number of live errors. Oversees and coordinates testing team and super users within departments of applications supported.    Analyst will conduct actual testing if only one resource is required.
  1. Develop training and education material, for departmental application. Producing and assist Employee Development staff in creating training manuals for upgrades, user enhancements and all other changes.  Analyst will conduct training on system and corresponding policies and procedures when necessary.
  1. Serves as a liaison for Information Technology, Employee Development and Project Management Office. Acts as a primary liaison for projects as assigned and provides leadership for complex upgrades for user community, technical staff and vendors.  Coordinates tasks and serves as a facilitator and consultant to assist in analysis of process flow and implementation of change to improve quality of service.
