Job Description

You represent Fairmont Century Plaza with enthusiasm and pride, providing exceptional service and attention for each guest you encounter. You are energetic and confident, and will encourage your teammates to achieve and be positive while being entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring the best possible experience for your guests at all times in a friendly, courteous, helpful, timely and professional manner.

As Barback, you are of service in a friendly, courteous, helpful, timely and professional manner.  To prepare beverages for guests and servers following recipes and guidelines for preparation, presentation and accountability in a cost efficient manner.  To ensure compliance with all liquor laws in the preparation, serving and consumption of alcoholic beverages in the restaurant.


What you will be doing:

  • Exceed guest expectations
  • Assist the bartenders with all steps of service to help prioritize the guest experience
  • Work directly with the prep team and the kitchen to ensure that the bar is prepared to service standards
  • Stocking and breaking down the bar for service
  • Liquor, beer, wine and cocktail knowledge
  • Interact with guests in a way that makes them feel special
  • Proper and friendly service when in contact with all guests
  • Comply with liquor laws
  • Maintain accountability, both personal and financial
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of bar prep area and bar
  • Control cost and waste
  • Maintain knowledge of menu, food preparation techniques
  • Be pro-active by assisting co-workers
  • Support and assist Managers
  • Be proficient with all aspects and services of the property
  • Be familiar with all food outlets and amenities within the property
  • Be knowledgeable of general city information as well as hotel history
  • Personal and financial accountability
  • Be an ambassador for the department, the property and the brand

Qualifications

Your experience and skills include:

  • Knowledge of Spirits, Cocktails, Wine and Beer
  • Previous customer service experience required
  • Previous food and beverage and/or barista experience preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
  • Highly responsible and reliable. Can work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a small team and independently
  • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times
  • Must have previous experience barbacking in a luxury environment
  • Must have previous experience barbacking in a high volume environment
