Emi Design Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an EMI Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as an EMI Design Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) principles, and circuit design, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with simulation tools like CST Studio Suite or Ansys HFSS, and certifications such as iNARTE EMC Engineer, are commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork and communication skills help engineers address complex interference issues. These skills and qualifications are crucial for ensuring products comply with regulatory standards and function reliably in electromagnetic environments.

How does an EMI Design Engineer typically collaborate with other engineering teams during product development?

As an EMI Design Engineer, you will work closely with hardware, PCB layout, and mechanical engineering teams throughout the product development cycle. Your primary role is to identify potential electromagnetic interference (EMI) issues early on and recommend design modifications to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Collaboration often involves reviewing schematics, participating in design reviews, and coordinating EMI testing with the broader engineering team to troubleshoot and resolve complex interference problems. This cross-functional teamwork is crucial for integrating EMI solutions without impacting product performance or timelines.

What is an EMI Design Engineer?

An EMI Design Engineer is a professional who specializes in managing and mitigating electromagnetic interference (EMI) in electronic systems and devices. Their work involves designing circuits, components, and enclosures to ensure compliance with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards. They use simulation tools, perform tests, and develop shielding or filtering solutions to prevent unwanted electromagnetic disturbances that could affect device performance or safety. EMI Design Engineers often work closely with hardware engineers and compliance teams throughout the product development process.

What is the difference between Emi Design Engineer vs EMI Engineer?

On the ATG Powernet team, you'll work at the center of our autonomous platforms: designing and maintaining the low-voltage electrical architecture that powers compute, sensors, actuation, and safety-critical functions.
Our mission: deliver state-of-the-art SAE Level 4 automated driving capability within defined Operational Design Domains (ODDs). If you enjoy owning hardware from concept through integration and want your work to directly impact the safety and reliability of autonomous trucks, this role is for you.
Posting Information
We provide a scheduled posting end date to assist our candidates with their application planning. While this date reflects our latest plans, it is subject to change, and postings may be extended or removed earlier than expected.
We Take Care of Our Team
Position offers a starting salary range of $86,000.00 - $110,000.00 USD
Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience

What You Drive at DTNA
As a Hardware and Energy Storage Engineer, you'll help bring our autonomous platform to life by owning key elements of hardware integration, low-voltage architecture, and high-integrity energy storage. Responsibilities include:
  • Develop and integrate vehicle hardware from customer requirements using core electrical engineering principles (power distribution strategy, zoning, grounding concept, return paths, EMC/EMI-focused wiring practices)
  • Create, maintain, and communicate base truck Powernet architecture diagrams
  • Provide hands-on technical support to development partners (internal and external)
  • Lead cross-functional meetings to drive alignment, close open issues, and keep execution moving
  • Design and develop high-integrity energy storage features supporting minimum risk maneuvers (Voltage drop and power integrity analysis across operating modes)
  • Define future concepts and project plans for next-generation technologies and higher ASIL targets
  • Build and maintain battery simulation models using Simscape and Vector tools

Knowledge You Should Bring
  • Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field from an accrediteduniversity and 2-4 years of relevant experience, or 6 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree, is required.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical fundamentals and circuit design
  • Strong knowledge of low-voltage system techniques and best practices
  • Experience with low-voltage power distribution systems
  • Experience translating industry standards into requirements (e.g., ISO, SAE, VDA, IEEE)
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity and rapid change
  • Experience with component development and supplier coordination
  • Experience with CAN/LIN communication protocols
  • An attached resume is required
