Job description

Emergency Room Nurse

Job Type: Travel

Profession: Registered Nurse

Shift: 12H Evenings

Hours per Shift: 12 hours

Experience: Minimum of 2 years in Emergency Room

License: Valid nursing license required

Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC

Must-Have: Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in the Emergency Room specialty, Travel experience required, EPIC experience required

Description: The Emergency Room handles a variety of patient cases. Common diagnoses include gunshot wounds, violent crimes, strokes, STEMIs, and mental health issues. Pediatric cases often involve respiratory illnesses and fractures. The department manages trauma patients effectively. Nurses work with common critical care drips. On average, the Emergency Room treats approximately 111 patients each day. The nurse to patient ratio is 1:4. There are separate areas for triage, and travelers are allowed to perform triage using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) algorithm. Security personnel are present 24/7 during high volume times. Nursing staff monitor and read telemetry strips. Respiratory therapy support is available, responding to all codes and respiratory tasks. X-Ray and CT services are located adjacent to the Emergency Room. Nurses and techs are responsible for drawing labs. Weekly scheduling accommodates various shift preferences. Weekend coverage is required every other week, and holiday coverage is also mandated every other year. Floating between units is not required. Caribbean blue scrubs are the designated uniform color.
