Embryology Laboratory Manager

IVIRMA North America, a network of state-of-the-art fertility practices and a global leader in reproductive medicine, is seeking an experienced Embryology Laboratory Manager to join our growing Orange County team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled embryologist to step into a leadership role within a highly specialized fertility environment. As Embryology Laboratory Manager, you will work alongside renowned reproductive endocrinologists, embryologists, and laboratory professionals dedicated to helping patients achieve their family-building goals. This position offers the opportunity to lead a collaborative team, drive laboratory excellence, influence patient outcomes, and contribute to innovative fertility treatments in a supportive and patient-focused culture.

Position Summary

The Embryology Laboratory Manager supervises daily clinical embryology operations and ensures adherence to IVIRMA's laboratory philosophy, mission, and performance standards. This role is responsible for overseeing laboratory quality assurance and quality control programs, regulatory compliance, staff development, and operational efficiency while maintaining the highest standards of patient care and laboratory performance.

The Embryology Laboratory Manager must demonstrate exceptional analytical, organizational, leadership, and critical-thinking skills to optimize laboratory resources, support staff development, and maximize clinical outcomes.

Essential Functions & ResponsibilitiesClinical Embryology
  • Perform and oversee daily IVF laboratory procedures.
  • Maintain the highest standards for embryo culture, fertilization assessment, embryo development, embryo transfer preparation, and cryopreservation activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all laboratory protocols and quality standards.
  • Monitor laboratory performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Assist in evaluating and implementing new technologies, procedures, and best practices.
Quality & Regulatory Compliance
  • Implement and maintain laboratory quality assurance and quality control programs.
  • Ensure all laboratory procedures are completed accurately and appropriately documented.
  • Maintain compliance with CAP, CLIA, FDA, state regulations, and accreditation requirements.
  • Support laboratory inspections, audits, validations, and regulatory reviews.
  • Maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and laboratory documentation.
Laboratory Operations
  • Organize and manage laboratory staffing schedules.
  • Monitor workflow and resource utilization to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Assist with inventory management, equipment maintenance, and supply ordering.
  • Analyze laboratory performance data and recommend process improvements.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and laboratory personnel to support patient care goals.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to embryology laboratory staff.
  • Ensure team members receive appropriate training, competency assessments, and professional development opportunities.
  • Oversee employee scheduling, timekeeping, PTO requests, and staffing coverage.
  • Communicate and enforce company policies, procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performing team culture.
  • Participate in recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and employee development activities.
Academic Training
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences or a related scientific field โ€“ required
  • Master's Degree in a related field โ€“ preferred
  • Technical Supervisor (TS) Certification through the American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB) โ€“ preferred
Requirements
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in a clinical embryology laboratory โ€“ preferred
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience in an IVF laboratory environment โ€“ preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of embryology laboratory operations and IVF procedures.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Technical Skills
  • Advanced understanding of clinical embryology principles and laboratory techniques.
  • Experience performing and overseeing IVF laboratory procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) principles and techniques.
  • Experience with embryo biopsy and cryopreservation procedures preferred.
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with laboratory information systems and data management preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit and work at a microscope for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills necessary for laboratory procedures.
  • Ability to stand, bend, reach, and lift up to 35 pounds as needed.
  • Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination required for precise laboratory work.
Environmental Conditions
  • Work performed in a temperature-controlled laboratory environment.
  • Regular handling of human reproductive tissues and biological specimens.
  • Occupational exposure to potentially infectious materials.
  • Use of laboratory equipment including microscopes, incubators, cryostorage systems, and computer technology.
  • Weekend, holiday, and occasional overtime work may be required based on patient care needs.
