Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Embryologist II (FGP) - OB/GYN, IVF.
Embryologist II is a mid-level position. This position performs basic clinical laboratory techniques independently under supervision of laboratory leadership and at the direction of Senior Embryologists. Additionally, this position assists senior staff with advanced clinical laboratory techniques and duties. Detail oriented data entry and functionality with laboratory software is required. This position includes holiday and weekend rotations. Team oriented workflow. Also interfaces with the research and ancillary components of the program.

Job Responsibilities:

    1. Study and review Embryology Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and be familiar with quality control, quality assurance, safety procedures and operating guidelines for performing laboratory services.
    2. Study and comply with OSHA requirements and HIPAA regulations and utilize universal precautions for bloodborne pathogens.
    3. Demonstrate sufficient competency to perform basic ART procedures and quality control independently:
      1. laboratory cleaning and monitoring
      2. receipt and testing of media and supplies
      3. preparation and labeling of media and tissue culture materials and dishes
      4. equipment maintenance and quality control
      5. sperm preparation for ART
      6. sperm cryopreservation (if applicable) and thaw
      7. oocyte retrieval and preparation for culture and insemination
      8. conventional IVF (in vitro fertilization) insemination
      9. fertilization assessment
      10. embryo handling, culture, and grading
      11. embryo vitrification and warming
      12. laser assisted hatching
      13. handling of liquid nitrogen, cryopreserved specimens and maintenance and monitoring of cryo-storage tanks
      14. fresh specimen discard
      15. participation in cryopreserved specimen discard with laboratory leadership as necessary
      16. receipt and release of cryopreserved specimens as necessary
    4. Participate and develop proficiency in advanced ART procedures under the direct supervision of Senior Embryologists or laboratory leadership:
      1. embryo transfer
      2. oocyte vitrification
      3. Intra-cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
      4. participate in laboratory efforts to research and improve the quality of laboratory services
    5. Maintain records of training in each procedure.
    6. Maintain and ensure chain of custody for all specimens in the laboratory.
    7. Record and report laboratory monitoring, quality control, and patient results in the electronic medical record system and/or the appropriate written format, spreadsheets, databases, or laboratory software.
    8. Data entry to SART and NASS, if applicable.
    9. Communicate with patients and clinical staff as needed.
    10. Participate in laboratory proficiency testing programs.
    11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Position Responsibilities: Provide a high level of patient care and service.  Attend practice and department meetings.  Learn and maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, society meetings, reviewing publications, and establishing personal networks.  Document all continuing education activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Education: A Bachelors degree or equivalent in a chemical, physical, biological, medical technology, clinical or reproductive laboratory science from an accredited institution. Experience: 1+ years in a clinical laboratory setting performing basic embryology techniques with experience in in-vitro fertilization.
Other: Excellent written and spoken communication skills with ability to interact appropriately with patients, physicians, nursing staff and co-workers. Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. Must be able to lift up to 25lbs in weight for stocking and inventory responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications:
Embryology Laboratory Scientist (AAB) certification.
