What does an email marketing operations manager do?

An Email Marketing Operations Manager oversees the planning, execution, and optimization of email marketing campaigns. Their responsibilities include managing email lists, ensuring deliverability, analyzing campaign performance, and maintaining compliance with regulations like GDPR and CAN-SPAM. They work closely with marketing teams to create effective strategies, implement automation, and use analytics to improve engagement and conversion rates.

What are some common challenges faced by an email marketing operations manager when coordinating campaigns across multiple teams?

Email Marketing Operations Managers often face the challenge of aligning messaging, timelines, and data requirements across marketing, design, content, and IT teams. Coordinating these elements requires strong project management skills and clear communication to avoid delays or inconsistencies in campaigns. To thrive as an Email Marketing Operations Manager, you need expertise in digital marketing strategies, campaign management, and a strong understanding of email compliance regulations, often supported by a degree in marketing or similar field. Familiarity with email marketing platforms (such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Mailchimp, or HubSpot), analytics tools, and CRM systems is typically required, along with certifications like HubSpot Email Marketing or Salesforce Certified Marketing Cloud Email Specialist. About the Role:

The Marketing Operations team is the strategic backbone of our marketing efforts, building the scalable systems and processes that fuel our global growth, managing the marketing technology stack, and enabling seamless campaign execution. We collaborate across the company with sales, systems, and product marketing to drive efficiency and impact.

As the Manager of Campaign Operations, you will lead the team responsible for the execution and delivery of our digital marketing campaigns. This is a highly strategic role where you will not only manage a global team but also architect the frameworks, processes, and enablement tools for our enterprise marketing managers across the US, UK, and Mexico. You are passionate about developing best-in-class processes and automation to drive high performing campaigns for scale. You are excited by the challenge of a fast-paced, hyper-growth environment, and can confidently navigate ambiguity, drive requirements, and ruthlessly prioritize for the highest impact.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead and Scale: Own the end-to-end global campaign execution process, managing a team of specialists to deliver high-quality, timely marketing campaigns across multiple channels.
  • Process Innovation: Design, implement, and optimize scalable frameworks and standard operating procedures for campaign intake, execution, and reporting.
  • Strategic Partnership: Act as a key consultant for marketing stakeholders, providing expert guidance on best practices for campaign setup, legal compliance, deliverability, and performance optimization.
  • Enablement and Training: Develop and roll out enablement tools and training programs for our enterprise marketing managers to effectively leverage our campaign operations capabilities.
  • AI and Automation: Champion AI tools to innovate and create efficiencies within your team's workflows and for your stakeholders.
  • Technology and Systems: Partner with the marketing systems team to translate business requirements into technical designs for our marketing technology stack.
  • Performance Analysis: Track campaign and team KPIs to identify opportunities for optimization and work with go-to-market teams to implement improvements.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience: 6+ years of experience in marketing operations, with a focus on campaign execution and marketing automation in a B2B environment. Recent experience in a high growth technology company (SaaS, AI, etc.).  Pre IPO company a plus.
  • Leadership: Proven experience leading and mentoring a team of technical talent, with a "player/coach" mindset. Experience managing and optimizing processes with distributed or offshore teams is highly desired.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep hands-on expertise with Marketo and Salesforce is essential. Experience with a broad marketing technology stack is a plus.
  • Strategic Mindset: You are not just an executor, but a strategic thinker who can see the bigger picture and build for the future. You are comfortable in ambiguity and have a knack for turning business requirements into actionable plans.
  • Consultative Skills: Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders at all levels. You can confidently drive conversations to define priorities and requirements.
  • Process-Oriented: Experience building efficient and scalable processes, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to quality.
  • AI Acumen: Professional experience using AI tools to innovate and improve business processes within your current and previous roles
  • Adaptability: Thrives in a fast-paced, hyper-growth environment with shifting priorities. You are a proactive problem-solver who can manage multiple projects simultaneously.
