Job description

Overview

Under the guidance of a Party Chief or Surveyor II, this role leverages technical expertise to ensure the precise installation of materials and equipment in alignment with MasTec Industrial and client specifications. The position involves conducting detailed inspections and layout activities across diverse project scopes, verifying quality and compliance. Responsibilities include thorough documentation of inspection and testing outcomes, serving as a key contributor to project integrity and success.

Location & Travel Details: You can be based in any city or state in the U.S.. This is a traveling, project based position, up to 100% of the time. You have the potential to be placed on a project site located in any state throughout the US. You’ll spend 8-18 months on average per project. We offer designated per diem in addition to an excellent base salary to support and help you cover living expenses. This position is eligible for mobilization support (may include mileage reimbursement).

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Promote and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures
  • Record the results of surveys including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features.
  • Calls out reading or writes station number and reading in notebook.
  • Marks points of measurement with elevation, station number, or other identifying mark.
  • Measures distance between survey points with steel or cloth tape or surveyor's chain.
  • Marks measuring points with markers, paint sticks, tacks, scribe, or stakes.
  • Holds level or stadia rod at designated points to assist in determining elevations and laying out stakes for mapmaking, construction, land, and other surveys. Place stakes at designated points and drives them into ground at specified elevation.
  • Cuts and clears brush and trees or other possible obstructions from line of survey.
  • Load/unload equipment and prepare for daily jobs.
  • Assume other special activities and responsibilities from time to time as assigned
  • Exercises own initiative in seeking additional work, or helping others complete their job assignments upon completion of regular work assignment
  • Continually work to sharpen skills and improve on the understanding of surveying
  • Punctual in work assignments
  • Conduct self in a professional manner in the presence of clients and co-workers
  • Capable of determining calibration status of measuring and test equipment
  • Interacts cross-functionally with craft personnel and other team members. 

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Entry level experience working in the construction field
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs
  • When on-site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
  • Set a personal example of safe behavior.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints and procedure manuals
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Must have a desire to develop knowledge of layout and survey work
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
  • May need to maintain physical strength and stamina; Use arms, hands, and legs fully; Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
  • Stamina to perform this task repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals.
  • Uncontrolled environmental conditions: Constant change in weather and site conditions.
  • This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to- safety toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).
  • Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
  • May need to work at heights and must be able to abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements; must be able to wear and utilize all safety equipment required for work at heights.
  • Evaluate information based on measurable standards; and see details in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings.
  • Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings.
  • Keep good balance and work at heights.
  • See well (either naturally or with correction).
  • Hear well (either naturally or with correction.)
  • Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet.

This position is a Full-Time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week.  Schedule is subject to projects requirements.
