The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing assistance to nursing staff and providers in a clinic setting.

Medical Assistant Essential Duties

  1. Check patients in for appointments.
  2. Attentive to patient and provider needs, actively participate in keeping providers on schedule.
  3. Help schedule appointments/referrals/admissions for patients outside the clinic.
  4. Work collaboratively with the clinical team to promote continuity of patient care.
  5. Float from team to team or task to task as needed.
  6. Perform elephant ear washes, Snellen's, audiograms; strep throat swabs, rapid flu swabs, etc.
  7. Assist with medication/immunization injections as needed in accordance with protocol.
  8. Ensure examination rooms are fully stocked, cleaned, organized, etc.
  9. Ensure appropriate orders/forms are completed upon provider request.
  10. Assist providers and/or nurses in daily operational activities.
  11. Send EHR messages as delegated by Team Nurse.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Medical Assistant Skills Required

  1. Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules and regulations.
  2. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  3. Ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and to prioritize tasks to provide appropriate, efficient and quality patient care.
  4. Effective and efficient time management.
  5. Ability to work independently and use good judgement.
  6. Ability to read and write using English format.


Medical Assistant Education and Experience

  1. High school diploma;
  2. 1 year experience in a Medical environment (not required but is beneficial);
  3. Certified Nurse's Assistant and/or proof of Medical Assistant degree preferred, but not required;
  4. Must have and maintain CPR certification;
  5. Social and cultural sensitivity appropriate to ethnically and economically diverse patient and employee-base.
