Position: Mechanical Engineer, FEA

Location: Raleigh, NC

Amphenol High Speed Products Group is the market leader for high speed, high bandwidth electrical connectors for the Telecom/Datacom market (Mobile Networks, Storage, Servers, Routers, Switches, etc.). Our products help to enable the electronics revolution and remain a key enabler for all the major Tier 1 OEMs globally. We have design, sales, and manufacturing locations globally and are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer, FEA to join our Cable Backplane Systems team located in Raleigh, NC.

Amphenol's High speed cable backplane systems enable most of the world's IT and datacom; including leading the way for the AI/ML revolution; and require some of the most advanced manufacturing technologies, and highest levels of precision, in the engineering world. These challenges require the most creative, technical minds, and ultimately provide the most rewarding experience for an engineer.

The Mechanical Engineer, FEA will be responsible for mechanical simulations, structural analysis, and the development of hardware and cable components. This role involves overseeing the development, validation and optimization of product designs, ensuring the accuracy and quality of finite element models and ensuring the reliability and efficiency of manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of finite element analysis (FEA) and multi-physics simulations and have strong project management skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Project Management: Oversee project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure timely delivery of products.
  • Develop best practices, workflows, and standard operating procedures for simulation activities.
  • Collaborate with design, R&D, manufacturing, and testing teams to support product development and validation.
  • Technical Oversight: Ensure the accuracy and quality of mechanical simulations and structural analysis.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive initiatives to improve manufacturing processes, product quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with product line management, sales, and other departments to support new product introductions and strategic initiatives.
  • Safety and Quality: Promote a culture of safety and quality within the team, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Customer Focus: Liaise with customers to understand their requirements and provide technical support as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field; Higher level degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role
  • Familiarity with product development lifecycle and systems engineering.
  • Strong understanding of hardware components and their applications in electronics manufacturing.
  • Excellent project management skills, with a track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives and foster a culture of innovation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Experience with mechanical simulations focusing on structural analysis, including linear and non-linear behavior, as well as vibration and dynamic analysis (e.g., modal, harmonic, random vibration, or transient response)
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to hardware components.
  • Proficiency in FEA software (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, or Nastran) for both static and dynamic simulations
