Job Title: Director of Operations & Fleet Management
Job Summary: The Director of Operations & Fleet Management is responsible for the procurement, maintenance, and lifecycle management of the company's heavy equipment fleet of 600+ pieces, along with the day-to-day operation of the company yard - including the material yard (pipe, conex boxes, formwork, lumber, etc) and the aggregate yard (dirt, recycled concrete, rock, sand, etc). This position plays a critical role in ensuring equipment reliability, cost control, and operational readiness across all active job sites.
Fleet Management & Maintenance
  • Manage the full lifecycle of a 600+ piece heavy equipment and vehicle fleet, including procurement, deployment, maintenance, repair, and disposal/resale.
  • Maintain and guide preventive maintenance program, including inspection schedules, service intervals, and repair tracking for all fleet assets.
  • Supervise shop operations and manage relationships with outside repair vendors and dealerships.
  • Track equipment use and lifecycle costs to inform repair vs. replace and buy vs. lease decisions.
  • Maintain a fleet management system to support scheduling, utilization reporting, and data-driven decisions.
  • Ensure all equipment and vehicles meet DOT, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements, including inspections, registrations, titling, and insurance.
  • Coordinate equipment scheduling and allocation across active job sites, and negotiate with vendors and suppliers for equipment, parts, and services.
  • Support preconstruction and estimating teams with equipment selection, availability, and cost input during bidding.
    Yard Operations
  • Lead yard operations, and ensure that inventory and organization of the material yard (pipe, conex boxes, formwork, lumber, etc) and aggregate yard (dirt, recycled concrete, rock, sand, etc) is maintained.
  • Supervise yard staff, including dispatch, receiving, and material handling personnel, and coordinate deliveries and pickups to and from job sites.
  • Maintain yard layout for efficient loading, staging, and retrieval of equipment and materials.
  • Maintain yard safety, security, and environmental compliance, including stormwater and material storage requirements.
  • Provide regular status reports on fleet condition, maintenance costs, and yard inventory, and collaborate with Project Managers and field leadership to align resources with project needs.
  • Other duties as directed by the company leadership.
    Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years managing a large fleet of heavy equipment (100+ pieces) within construction, general contracting, or related industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Experience managing yard operations, materials handling, and inventory control.
  • Experience with fleet management or telematics software, and general proficiency with technology.
  • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements related to fleet and equipment operations.
  • Proven experience managing equipment budgets, cost controls, and vendor negotiations.
  • Supervisory experience managing mechanics, technicians, and/or yard staff.
  • Ability to assess and mitigate risk, and collaborate effectively with peers, project teams, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Must operate in a character consistent with company values (Skill, Integrity, and Responsibility) and stay current on emerging industry trends and technology.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to work flexible hours, including occasional emergency response.
    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, business, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
  • AEMP certifications is a plus.
  • ASE certification(s) or equivalent diesel/heavy equipment technician background, or a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), is a plus.
  • Experience with fleet management platforms (Tenna), is highly preferred.
