Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for an Electrical Engineer opportunity in Oak Ridge, TN.
Position Overview:
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the design, integration, and commissioning of electrical power, instrumentation, and control systems for a specialized industrial process and manufacturing facility. This position will be responsible for developing electrical designs, equipment specifications, and automation architectures for process equipment and manufacturing systems.
The successful candidate will work closely with mechanical, process, controls, and project engineers to develop safe, reliable, and maintainable electrical and control systems from concept through construction, startup, and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop electrical power distribution, motor control, instrumentation, and automation systems for industrial equipment and process facilities.
  • Develop electrical single-line diagrams, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, loop diagrams, and construction drawing packages.
  • Design and integrate controls for automated equipment, rotating machinery, process skids, and associated support systems.
  • Specify and coordinate electrical equipment including switchgear, motor control centers, variable frequency drives (VFDs), PLCs, instrumentation, sensors, and control panels.
  • Support PLC, HMI, SCADA, and industrial network architecture development in coordination with controls engineers and system integrators.
  • Perform electrical calculations including load studies, equipment sizing, voltage drop, short-circuit analysis, and protective device coordination.
  • Develop equipment specifications, technical requirements, procurement documentation, and vendor design reviews.
  • Support design reviews, hazard analyses, construction activities, startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational readiness testing.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, cybersecurity requirements, quality procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Coordinate electrical and controls interfaces with mechanical, process, instrumentation, and facility systems.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial electrical engineering, controls engineering, automation, manufacturing, process facilities, or related industries.
  • Experience designing industrial power distribution and control systems.
  • Familiarity with PLC-based automation systems and industrial communications networks.
  • Experience developing electrical drawings using 3D CAD software.
  • Knowledge of electrical equipment including motors, VFDs, MCCs, switchgear, instrumentation, and control panels.
  • Understanding of NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 70E, IEEE, ISA, and related industry standards.
  • Ability to perform electrical calculations and develop engineering documentation.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.
