Job description

Job Overview
The Buyer is responsible for procuring materials, equipment, supplies, and services necessary to support operations. This role reviews and analyzes purchase requisitions, identifies and develops reliable sources of supply, solicits and evaluates quotations, and ensures purchasing activities align with company requirements for cost, quality, and delivery.

A Day In The Life
  • Execute daily purchasing activities, ensuring proper authorization, accurate purchase order entry, and timely distribution.
  • Monitor and convert requisitions in compliance with Hubbell Purchasing Policy.
  • Collaborate closely with Planning and Manufacturing teams to support inventory goals and production requirements.
  • Maintain accurate purchase order data, including pricing, lead times, and other key details, within the Purchasing Information Record (PIR) in the current MRP system (SAP).
  • Expedite purchased materials, including raw materials and components, as required to meet production schedules.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance, Production, and suppliers to ensure timely disposition of rejected materials or components.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and Hubbell Accounts Payable to resolve invoicing discrepancies and issues as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience
  • High School diploma; required.
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; required.
  • Four (4) or more years of related experience; preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; required.
  • Experience with SAP; preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and recordkeeping.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including Planning, Manufacturing, Quality, and Suppliers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve issues efficiently and professionally.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time while working at a computer and performing administrative tasks.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and via electronic communication.
  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, or reach as required to support job duties.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work in both an office and manufacturing/warehouse environment, with exposure to noise, moving equipment, and production floors as needed.
  • Visual ability to read screens, printed materials, and reports.
