Location: East Chicago, IN

Cleveland-Cliffs Steel is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to support our manufacturing operations at our Indiana Harbor facility. This key leadership role will drive electrical reliability, equipment performance, and continuous improvement initiatives across a complex industrial environment. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise, lead capital and maintenance projects, and partner with operations and maintenance teams to maximize safety, reliability, and production performance.


Summary of Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical reliability and continuous improvement efforts across manufacturing operations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical, controls, and automation issues.
  • Manage and execute maintenance and capital projects, including scope, budget, schedule, and implementation.
  • Perform root cause analysis and develop long-term solutions to improve equipment performance and reduce downtime.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to support production goals.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to maintenance personnel and contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Support outage planning, equipment upgrades, and commissioning activities.
  • Provide technical support for a 24/7 manufacturing operation as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of electrical engineering experience in manufacturing, industrial, or process operations.
  • Strong troubleshooting, project management, and communication skills.
  • Experience working with industrial electrical systems and equipment.
  • Ability to work in a heavy industrial environment and support a continuous operation.
  • Ability to support a continuous 24/7 operation, including off-hours support when required.
  • Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in steelmaking, metals, mining, or heavy manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of medium-voltage power systems, MCCs, transformers, switchgear, and motor controls.
  • Experience with PLCs, HMIs, drives, instrumentation, and process controls.
  • Background in reliability engineering, preventive maintenance, and root cause analysis.
  • Experience leading engineering projects in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA 70E, and industrial electrical safety standards.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience.
