Engineering Technician – Wire Harness / Automotive Electrical

Job Title: Engineering Technician
Location: Dearborn, MI
Work Schedule: 1st Shift
Work Location: Ford Assembly Plant, Dearborn, MI
Additional Location: SEWS Farmington Hills, MI, as needed
Travel: Required
Overtime: Required as needed, potentially up to 60 hours/week


Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Technician with a strong background in wire harness rework, automotive electrical systems, and DC electrical troubleshooting. The technician will provide hands-on engineering and technical support at the Ford Assembly Plant, supporting production, pre-production, prototype builds, vehicle testing, and electrical troubleshooting activities.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform wire harness rework, repair, troubleshooting, and validation in collaboration with technicians, engineers, customer personnel, third-party teams, and the El Paso, TX rework team.
  • Perform automotive DC electrical troubleshooting and repair on vehicles and electrical systems.
  • Support vehicle testing and troubleshooting and assist with identifying and resolving electrical and harness-related issues.
  • Manage and oversee third-party rework teams, ensuring harness rework and repairs are performed correctly and in accordance with engineering requirements.
  • Provide engineering and technical support for major electrical issues and stop-build situations at Mexico manufacturing locations.
  • Support pre-production and production build phases, including harness rework and repair activities at customer facilities.
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings and communicate technical issues, corrective actions, and rework status.
  • Document, track, and follow up on harness rework and repair activities.
  • Respond to day-to-day customer requests and provide timely technical support.
  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and production teams to resolve electrical and harness-related problems.
  • Travel to customer and manufacturing locations as required to support troubleshooting, rework, and prototype/production activities.
  • Perform additional technical responsibilities as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in electrical engineering, electrical troubleshooting, automotive electrical systems, or a closely related field.
  • Hands-on experience with wire harness troubleshooting, repair, rework, or assembly.
  • Experience troubleshooting automotive DC electrical systems.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Mechanic certification is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of automotive electrical systems, wiring, connectors, circuits, and harnesses.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineers, technicians, customers, and third-party personnel.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing/production environment.


Additional Requirements

  • Position is primarily onsite at the Ford Assembly Plant in Dearborn, MI.
  • Must be able to report to SEWS Farmington Hills, MI facilities as needed.
  • Must be flexible to work overtime based on production, vehicle troubleshooting, and prototype-build requirements; overtime may reach up to approximately 60 hours per week.
  • Business travel is required.
  • Due to limited availability of company vehicles, the technician must use a personal vehicle when traveling to customer sites. Mileage and travel time will be reimbursed.
  • Must have the ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
